Kerry: Bush assurance on Iraq a blunder

Democratic Sen. John Kerry said Tuesday that President Bush committed "a gigantic blunder" by giving top Iraqi officials assurances that U.S. forces would remain indefinitely in the war-torn country.
Kerry argued that his 2004 rival should have pressured Iraqi leaders to set aside their differences and focus on making progress in assuming responsibility for security, a move that could lead to a reduction in U.S. troop levels.
"The absence of pressure I find is an enormous blunder that gives the Iraqi politicians a free pass to continue the status quo that most Americans understand is a failure, that's not working," Kerry said. "I'm amazed by it."
Kerry is a possible 2008 presidential candidate. He spoke to reporters after appearing at a campaign event with Iowa gubernatorial candidate Chet Culver.
The Massachusetts senator was responding to Bush's 15-minute telephone conversation Monday with the Iraqi prime minister. Bush called Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to quell rumors that the United States planned to set a deadline for Iraqis to assume security responsibilities. In his conversation, Bush said there was no deadline and that American troops would remain as long as they were needed.
Bush's comments can be compared to his "bring it on" challenge to terrorists, Kerry said.
"I think the president committed a gigantic blunder of the proportion of 'Bring it on,' " said Kerry.

No I didn't. Germany and Japan were occupied only after a long war of several years had been fought and won, with their leaders formally surrendering. In Iraq there has been no formal surrender by the former government and the occupation was handled incompetently by morons in the Bush administration from Day One.
You don't agree with Bush's decisions to invade with underwhelming force and to disband the Iraqi army shortly after the invasion in 2003, do you?
Underwealming force kicked the shit out of their army in 10 days and toppled the government! The Iraqi army after seeing how we slaughtered them mostly went AWOL. Its funny how libs like you will give FDR 4 years to get 405,000 men killed and he is considered great! Truman 3 years to get 57,000 men killed and he is great! Kennedy to get us into Vietnam, Johnson to escalated and Blame Nixon for loosing it (when it was all the libs fault) signing a peace agreement and blame him for the entire war and 50,000 killed, yet Bush is a "failure" after 4 years and less dead in a war than was killed in the first 90 mins of 9/11.
