What did Santorum do that made folks so angry?
President "Bobby": Mr. Gardner, do you agree with Ben, or do you think that we can stimulate growth through temporary incentives?
[Long pause]
Chance the Gardener: As long as the roots are not severed, all is well. And all will be well in the garden.
President "Bobby": In the garden.
Chance the Gardener: Yes. In the garden, growth has it seasons. First comes spring and summer, but then we have fall and winter. And then we get spring and summer again.
President "Bobby": Spring and summer.
Chance the Gardener: Yes.
President "Bobby": Then fall and winter.
Chance the Gardener: Yes.
Benjamin Rand: I think what our insightful young friend is saying is that we welcome the inevitable seasons of nature, but we're upset by the seasons of our economy.
Chance the Gardener: Yes! There will be growth in the spring!
Benjamin Rand: Hmm!
Chance the Gardener: Hmm!
President "Bobby": Hm. Well, Mr. Gardner, I must admit that is one of the most refreshing and optimistic statements I've heard in a very, very long time.
[Benjamin Rand applauds]
President "Bobby": I admire your good, solid sense. That's precisely what we lack on Capitol Hill

Completely agree. If Santorum can win as a true conservative in a blue state, then he has my support for President.
But that's a big if...he's in for the fight of his life right now.
Yeah, reproducing thousands of AIDS babies just brings joy to the heart of God. Whether or not you support contraception, there's nothing racist about it. Is your friend a race-baiting liberal? Because he reasons like one.
Great video! He's the repetitive come-back-kid. What are the polls looking like now?
First Santorum supported Specter over Toomey. That probably could have been gotten past if he'd never mentioned again. But then he wrote an article in Crisis Magazine (a conservative Catholic publication) defending his position. Again, it probably could have been gotten past. Then, he ran radio ads in the Philly area saying he supported federal funding for condom distribution in Africa. Again, not a big deal unless you're one of those Catholics with 7 or 8 kids who previously had gone door to door telling everyone how great he is or spent evenings phoning potential voters. He lost a huge part of his organization in the Philly area. I don't think he's lost their votes, he's just lost their passion. We'll see what the effect is on the outcome.
No, you missed my point. Most people see it your way. I'm not denying that. What I'm saying is pro-life Catholics with a bunch of kids don't see it that way. Those are the people who were making the phone calls and knocking on doors in Philadelphia the last two times for Santorum.
"With less than a month to go before Election Day," Senator Rick Santorum has narrowed the gap with his Democrat opponent, Bob Casey, Jr, according to a Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll printed in the Allentown Morning Call. "Casey, a Democrat, has a 5-percentage-point advantage (46 percent to 41 percent) over Santorum."
I agree it's stupid to alienate a large part of your base over such a bill. Then to trumpet it... I'll cede this argument to you.
Thanks. You, my FRiend, are a class act.
Funny. I have sent $$$ to both Irey & Santorum from afar. (No other state, including my own. My own congressman doesn't need it, he's doing fine.) I'll be following the Pennsylvania races. Will there be a Santorum thread on election night?
Whenever I get a photo of our President & his lovely wife, I mail in a check.
You sound like Horatio on CSI:Miami. (ie. Good. I like Horatio.)
I'm pretty sure I'll be too drunk to post. I haven't been this scared since the 2000 presidential election.
Feh!
....does he let out that supporting Specter over Toomey in the primary was a major mistake, that he's taken to heart the lesson that sticking to principle is always better.
That is a valid point to bring up, Dane. Many were disappointed by "the 'incumbent' must be backed!" party line baloney.
FMCDH(BITS)
Look, I didn't day Rick didn't contribute to his predicament, but it's not just the Specter endorsement that's hurting him. There is a prevailing wind against the Rs and it is especially strong in PA. For example, it's not his fault this is Bush's second midterm. It's not his fault things look so weak in Iraq. It's not his fault PA is generally sliding leftward. It's not his fault Swann is so weak (and what's up with that!?). It's not his fault Hastert didn't dig deep on Foley when he had the chance. And so on.
This election is about the Supreme Court, not about individual senators. In the next 2 yrs, there may be 3 more seats on the Supreme Court.
Wish they would make an ad to that effect but I suppose it might fire up the liberals more than the conservatives.
Just to be clear, the 'bot was taking me to task for thinking Santorum will very probably lose.
Exactly! He has my vote and my full support. I did catch a bit of it, and it was quite entertaining. Rick stuck to point, answered articulately. But Casey JR? Still trying yet another political office on daddy's coattails. Bob Casey Sr. was quite a guy, an old-time Dem and I was pleased with how he ran things, party aside. But Casey Jr's comments were comical. Off issue. I can't recall which Republican he mentioned in a way that indicated Santorum was not that kind of Republican, I almost fell off my chair. It also tells me he's desperate to be rooting around the Republican side, pandering for votes, the kinds of Republicans who would have supported his dad, and so therefore should support him.
"...that sticking to principle is always better."
Only losers believe that principle is better than winning.
