Lou Dobbs says President Bush and Congress are part of an "elitist war on the middle class"

President Bush says that the installation of the new Iraqi government was a "watershed event," but at the same time warns Americans of the challenges and loss as we continue to prosecute the war against Iraqi insurgents. Sen. Harry Reid declares that legislation that would render English the national language is racist. Thirty-seven Democrats vote for full amnesty for all illegal aliens in this country, even though nobody really knows whether the number is 11 million, 12 million or 20 million. The Senate Republican leadership demands that a "comprehensive immigration reform" plan must be passed before this Memorial Day weekend. And the president signs into law a tax cut that raises taxes on the educational funds of teenagers saving for college.

Never before in our country's history have both the president and Congress been so out of touch with most Americans. Never before have so few of our elected officials and corporate leaders been less willing to commit to the national interest. And never before has our nation's largest constituent group -- some 200 million middle-class Americans -- been without representation in our nation's capital.(Watch why Dobbs said Mexico's leader is in charge of U.S. immigration policy -- 3:16) George W. Bush's approval ratings have slumped to the lowest of his presidency.

The approval rating for Congress is even lower, and nearly three-quarters of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. But what is our government doing about that? ... Congress, faced with midterm elections in just over five months, is intent on giving the president what he wants and telling working men and women and their families, American citizens all, to go to hell.

How many states have begun allowing illegal aliens to go to college, paying in state tuition costs, contrary to federal law? The Executive Branch should be insisting that the AG office, investigate and bring the states in line with the law that roughly states "No state may grant in state tuition to immigrants either legal or illegal, unless they do so to out of state citizens.

I agree with some of Dobbs' points as do many of the people here. He's also pointing out that both parties are guilty. But, Lou also is a proponent of populist economic policies that go beyond national interest and into protectionism.

Lou Dobbs used host a good business show. I agree with his take on immigration, but his view on the economy are coming close to the "Class Strugle" arguments the Commies used to take over places like China and Vietnam. I'm sure he has a copy of Mao's Little Red Book in his desk for quick reference.

I fail to see why we need LOU DOBBS to tell US anything.

There are plenty of good Republicans who are saying, and trying to do, the right things on this issue. To throw this strange, twisted, contradictory, hybrid, confusing, anti-Bush and anti-GOP CNN-er into the mix accomplishes exactly...what?

I do believe if you read his talking points he is encouraging a independent position away from both the Dems and Pubs, since both parties have no interest in the common folk and only answer to whoever is giving them money this week.

LOL, both parties depend on "common folk" to be elected, both parties coddle and pander to each and every wish, supposed offense, real or imagined injustice, and effort to keep every constituent very comfortable with gov cks.

The lobbyists who give donations to pols ARE the "common folk", and their "advocacy groups" who demand gov largess or business's who must petition the gov who has inserted itself in that business.

The "common folk" who pretend a war has been launched on them, or that they are somehow victims of evil politicians, have brought it on themselves.

Since it is they who elect men an women to give them what they need, protect them from anything slightly uncomfortable, and give them birth to death security.

All these idiots from Dobbs to Olbermann to Matthews have bet their very existence on the defeat of the GOP and if that doesn't happen their stations will dump them faster than they can say "Bush sucks" one last time.

I suspect you're wrong about that. If I admire anything about the left, it is their patience and understanding of incrementalism. They have been working their social/political/economic agenda for almost a century now and the inroads they have made are now readily evident. The right, on the other hand seems to expect everything now, and many are talking about ignoring elections or 'punishing republicans,' because they have achieved everything during the past legislative session, or even the past six years. The left did not make all their advances overnight, but literally over the course of decades. To think that the right has any chance of reversing their momentum in the matter of one or two presidential terms is ludicrous.

The right might fire or marginalize prognosticators that turned out to be in error, but the left will use theirs to continue to chink away at the fabric of our national character and rebuild it in their own image.

I don't think the stations will be able to withstand the bailout of advertisers from these shows because business doesn't want to be associated with commentators that are constantly wrong and who's ratings are in the dumps. Dobbs have been wrong about the economy, Olbermann has been just a loud mouth with nothing as in ideas and Chrissy was so wrong about Rove that he probably has nightmares about Rove.
