Faced with a noon deadline, former state senator John Ford kept himself out of jail by making a court-ordered child-support payment of $4,597 at 11:13 this morning at Juvenile Court.
Ford, 64, got his monthly payments reduced this week by 40 percent, but Referee Harold Horne also ordered him to make a purge payment or be held in contempt for falling behind in his child support obligations.
By Thursday Ford had paid $8,500, but Horne said he would be jailed by noon today if Ford did not make another payment of $4,597.
Juvenile Court Clerk Steve Stamson said Ford paid cash this morning.

Has anybody checked the whereabouts of the contents of the First Baptist Church's Sunday collection plate?

Who is this Ford guy? What party was he in when he was a Senator? Might he be related to this other Ford fella running for the US Senate?
But he probably never met Mark Foley, so he must be an all right guy, right?

Miss Connie may have to wait a month to get the new Jag.

64 and still making child support payments? Do you think he knows yet where babies come from? Is he in the bedroom all the time, or what?

Perhaps, I think in that family it is just speculation.

In America we have no debtors prisons... unless the debt is child support or taxes.

Father's Day in Memphis is mass confusion!!!!!
John has a former wife and a girlfriend that he divides his nights with. Has a number of children by each!
To: Michael.SF.
"and your point is?"
That jailing someone for not paying child support is effectively a debtor's prison.

So how would you propose we deal legally with people who do not meet their legal obligations to their family and to those who criminally avoid paying taxes?

The same way we do with anyone else who fails to pay a debt, through the civil court system.
