Skip to comments. For Congress: Putnam And Yes, Harris
Posted on 10/21/2006 7:37:15 PM PDT by NautiNurse
Early in the year, we became the first newspaper in the state to endorse the candidacy of Katherine Harris for the United States Senate. We were one of the few newspapers in the state to do so. The press, with few exceptions, does not like Katherine Harris, and campaign problems that would earn no more than a few lines in any other race become front page headlines in hers.
The problems and yes, errors, in her campaign, have overshadowed what she offers to the voters of Florida.
Like many Polk Countians, we have known her since childhood, and have watched with pride as she worked her way up the political system. That is a perspective that few others have.
She chose to begin her campaign with a stop in Bartow, and her father, from whom we suspect she inherited her drive and tenacity, said at that campaign kick-off that her political career has been marked by integrity . . . honesty . . . hard work.
Indeed it has been.
For her part, Katherine Harris said the campaign is not about making promises, it's about keeping promises.
Beyond such popular campaign themes as meeting the needs of senior citizens, promoting national security, and fighting oil drilling off Florida's Gulf Coast, she said:
We want to preserve this piece of paradise for future generations. That's the kind of vision we would like to see Florida politicians at every level of government embrace.
We respect Katherine Harris for her integrity, her leadership, her political courage, and her tireless dedication to public service.
Ours is a voice in the editorial wilderness; we raise it in support of Katherine Harris for the United States Senate.

Although the "Polls" show her down this means little, here in Florida...
where's that picture of her on the horse....very attractive
I saw her on H&C the other night. She was friendly and articulate, even when hammered by the idiot Colmes she kept her sense of humor and lady-like Southern-style charm. If I lived in Florida, I would not hesitate to vote for her.
How refreshing. Honestly, the only person who I am proud to vote for this election is Katherine Harris. The rest I have to hold my nose, but I will vote a straight Republican ballot.
I see a tv cameraman and Uncle Sam in the background. Who is that dignified gentleman in the foreground?
We had a great day campaigning for her this afternoon. Lots of folks stopped by the booth at the flea market to pick up yard signs, bumper stickers, and to share their support for Harris.
Bless you, too, NN!!
Putnam and HARRIS BTTT!
Thank you. By the way, I love your tag line. LOL! Have truer words ever been written? I don't think so.
That's great news. Thank you for all your hard work.
It's a shame, but I really think it's come to that --- I view the democrats as anti-American.
I do too.
I doubt we're alone.
I truly hope and pray Katherine Harris wins.
She certainly can!!!
Isn't it upsetting that the GOP gave her almost no support. This gal is doing it on her own, and I admire her spunk and determination. My prayers will be answered when she wins. :O)
I am sickened by that. I cut my donation to the RNC dramatically. Better to give to individual candidates. I so want your prayers to be answered. It's possible!
I did too, I refused to give to the GOP so that they could pass it on to Lincoln Chaffee or some other RINO. That to me is how you make a statement, not by not voting. Whenever I received a request from the GOP for a donation I mailed the envelope back with the reason why it was empty. Time for bed. Us old folks need their beauty rest. LOL! Good night, and it's been nice talking to you. :O)
Good night, dear CremeSaver. I enjoyed talking with you too.
If you send it back empty. they throw it away and don't record your comments.
If you put in, say, one dollar, then they record your comments.
Just passing this along.
We the People,
decide who is elected in this Country of Ours .
Not Newpapers, neither Local nor in Puke York City .
The people of Florida are not robots, they are not going to be programmed by what they read in a newspaper, nor what they see on TV(much of which is controlled by corporations in Nuke York City) .
The truth will be known after Election Day ! !
Hi ya, Marc!
Vote a straight GOP ticket.
>>If you send it back empty. they throw it away and don't record your comments.

Oh really ?
Is that by check or M.O. or do you just stick in a $1 bill in the return envelope ?
>>Hi ya, Marc!
Vote a straight GOP ticket.<<
Thank you ONYX,
I will, I will !
(the Libertarians have gone too leftward in recent years, so I will not be voting for them)
"The people of Florida are not robots, they are not going to be programmed by what they read in a newspaper, nor what they see on TV(much of which is controlled by corporations in Nuke York City)."
Hear ye, hear ye! Go Katherine, win this election and prove all the naysayers wrong. Ok Florida Pubs, get out there and vote en masse (that's a little French lingo for in HUGE amounts!)
How do you return requests for money?
I'm telling you what I know from experience.
But did you put a dollar bill in the envelope or write a check ?
That's some guy who tried to stick a yard sign into the cement on a street corner, and ended up having to hold the darn thing until all the cars had passed by.
I am sick and tired of some FReepers, who should know better, automatically take the liberal FL MSM polls and commentary against her as the gospel (whereas if it was about President Bush they'd be screaming "BARF ALERT!")
The out-and-out hatred against this fine, conservative woman is unbelievable.
Not robots is right. It's taxes, it's immigration, it's insurance (it's not about Mark Foley)!
Hopefull voters see it that way .
If the Democrats keep running on this Foley incident, it could backfire on them and cost them votes .
In 45 minutes she is going to debate the "ass-naut" cadet bill nelson at Nova Southwestern University in Davie, Florida (Ft' Lauderdale) will be on PBS tv channel 2 in about 42 minutes!! GO Kathrine!!
GO and creme the cadet out in space for good!!!
If horses could vote, Katherine Harris would win in a landslide!
Is the second Harris/Nelson debate still on for tonight...7:00 PM NBC, Tim Russert moderating?
Yes--Harris/Nelson debate at 7:00PM EST, on NBC stations with Tim Russert moderating. Too bad it isn't Chrissy Matthews. Except for his non-Florida related questions the other night, Matthews did a pretty good job moderating the gubernatorial debate.
