O'Brien urges Muslims to say sorry for 9/11
EDDIE BARNES
THE leader of Scotland's Roman Catholics, Cardinal Keith O'Brien, has called for Muslims to apologise for the 9/11 and 7/7 bomb attacks, declaring that the public should not have to live "in fear of attack" from believers of the Islamic faith....
O'Brien said: "There have been no apologies for the shooting of the nun [in Somalia after the Pope made his remarks], let alone for 9/11 or the London bombings. I would like to see some reciprocal moves from the Islamic side. We shouldn't have to live in fear of attack from Muslims."
The cardinal's comments were made in the same interview in which, as was revealed last week, he backed Scottish independence, praising the benefits autonomy could bring....
O'Brien expands on his views on the British constitution. He declares that he "would be only too happy to continue to undermine the British State" if it goes on espousing sectarianism in the form of the Act of Settlement - the law which bars Catholics from marrying the heir to the throne.
Last night, the cardinal's views on Islam had stirred up a new controversy, with Muslim leaders furious at the comment. They claimed that as the terrorist attacks were carried out by extremists, mainstream Muslims who had already condemned the actions had nothing to apologise for.
O'Brien's comments came after he was asked which trend in society posed the greater threat in Europe: secularisation of Islamicisation.
He replied: "Secularisation is the greatest threat. Muslims are firm in their faith and in their views. They believe in one God. That is a point of identification; though it can also produce tensions. Muslims coming here are free to build mosques, but Christians in Muslim countries are often oppressed."

It would mean nothing to me if they did which they won't and who really cares? They fly planes into our buildings and kill 3000 people or more, ruin thousands of lives of their families and friends, send us to a war that causes us to lose 2000+ soldiers (with who knows how many more to come) who all have families who will never be the same and I'm supposed to accept an "we're sorry". How absurd. I'd take it as a gross insult. No way.
And how long till Cardinal O'Brien apologizes for daring to even suggest they apologize...tick tock..
Well then I still contend that if they let fear smear their whole religion they must be stupid.
Obvious.
I suppose that my thinking is simplistic and linear, but what should I or anyone else care for an apology?
We seem to have become obsessed with apologies in our western culture.
I'm not apologizing for something my ancestors may or may not have done 200 years ago to black people or anyone else. And I don't care if a murderer apologizes for his crime, or if one thousand muslims apologize for 9/11.
People apologizing for something they weren't around to do (own slaves) and people apologizing for something they want to do again (9/11). And people feeling better afterwards. This is rational?
This is more nauseating than a Barney and Friends marathon.
Well, his fellow Cardinal, Cardinal Pell of Australia, has yet to apologize for his many comments about the Mohammedans, so we'll just have to wait and see.
I sure hope he stands his ground.
Am I the only one thinking that this poor guy just wrote his death sentence??
George Bush needs to talk to the good Cardinal about hoe Muslims "enrich" our society. On second thought, Bush needs to listed to the good cardinal.
listed = listen. It's getting late.
A most excellent analysis! MAJOR KUDOS FOR DUE DILIGENCE!
But the United States is supposed to apologize for (and haha pay reparations for) slavery that ended 140 years ago, and for the mis-treatment of Native Americans that took place over 100 years ago, and for....
The more leaders that take on the Muslims and their two-faced campaign against us, the better.
People called Tutsis cockroaches too...
True, the extremists carried out the attacks but why apologize when secretly they are in agreement with the terrorists' agenda. My tag says it all...
Big giant bump!!!!
Talk is cheap, especially two faced islamic talk.
Thank-you for this post. It will be bookmarked.
Go Cardinal Go!!!
