Napa Nuptials for [Ted] Olson and His Lady
The Washington Post ^ | October 22, 2006 | by Amy Argetsinger and Roxanne Roberts

Top Washington lawyer Ted Olson and his fiancee, Lady Booth, tied the knot yesterday in Napa Valley, Calif., starting a happy new chapter in Olson's personal life. "She's a Southern girl," he told us. "She's just a marvelous person."

Olson shot to national fame when he successfully argued the 2000 election case for George W. Bush in the Supreme Court, and was named solicitor general by the grateful president. On Sept. 11, 2001 -- his 61st birthday -- his wife, conservative commentator Barbara Olson, was killed when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. His personal loss became part of the public narrative of the tragedy, making him perhaps the most famous widower in Washington.

The following year, Olson was introduced to the Louisville native (she's named "Lady" after an aunt) by mutual friends who thought he would hit it off with the 40-something blond tax lawyer. Their first few dates included the Kentucky Derby (both like horse racing) and the Napa Valley charity auction (both like fine wine). Olson popped the question on Oct. 21, 2005, and the couple set the date for exactly one year later at Napa's Meadowood resort.

More than 300 guests attended the midafternoon ceremony on the golf course, including Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, former justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, legal commentators Victoria Toensing and Joe diGenova, NPR's Nina Totenberg, legal names such as Robert Bork, Kenneth Starr, David Boise, and Olson's law partner Bill Kilberg. U.S. Appeals Court Judge Laurence Silberman performed the ceremony, and Wall Street Journal

"Most lawyers I know have a hard time staying married. The spouses say they are too argumentative. They have to argue to death and win every minor point."

Sounds like most men I know...LOL! (ducking) hehe

Although under far less dramatic circumstances, I've been there, and done that.

Life does, indeed, go on. That "new" wife no more replaces the dead one than having a new baby makes up for one who died- they are separate entities.

Nevertheless, at some point you realize you can't talk to an empty chair, the silence ( oh, God, the silence... ) becomes too much, and you go forth, and do... other things.

And if you're a little bit lucky, you find someone who likes you, too.

Well, for "She Who Must Be Obeyed" and I, its been nearly 30 years, just months short of the 30 years and 22 days I've been practicing law. 'Course, her name may explain why things have gone so well!

Barbara Olson and the three thousand others were not killed. They were murdered. The PC media can not even bring itself to use the correct and accurate verb. Scum.

I understand your feelings, but I have to say that IMHO, they were not murdered, but killed. Just as soldiers who die in battle aren't murdered. Plain and simple, our country was attacked by a pseudo-government using a covert military force. The word murder indicates a criminal act. IMHO, it was an act of war. When a murder is committed, you send in the police. When war is waged against you, you send in the military.

On Friday, Washington GOP super lawyer Ted Olson left voicemail messages underscoring that Harman has no knowledge of any investigation. "Congresswoman Harman has asked me to follow up on calls you've had," Olson said. "She is not aware of any such investigation, does not believe that it is occurring, and wanted to make sure that you and your editors knew that as far as she knows, that's not true... . No one from the Justice Department has contacted her." It is not, however, a given that Harman would know that she is under investigation. In a follow-up phone call from California, Olson said Harman hired him this morning because she takes seriously the possibility of a media report about an investigation of her, even though she does not believe it herself.

It appears that C. Boyden Gray, former White House Counsel, was the mutual friend.

Lady is pretty, too.

Interesting guest list. I didn't know that Nina Totenberg and Robert Bork could even be in the same room together. Throw in Ken Starr and I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the reception. I guess DC is really a small community and people can be adversaries during the day and socialize together at night.

Damn, that is an impressive guest list. My invitation musta gotten lost in the mail. I had some spare time, and would have even de-mothballed my suit for a chance at some of the party favors, like the cast-off next to Boyden.

Don't forget David Boise, who argued for Al Gore before the supreme Court, when Ted was representing President Bush.

I know Laura Ingraham was planning to attend.

Imagine Nina Totenberg and Laura Ingraham going at it after having a few glasses of champagne in them. The only person missing from the guest list was Clarence Thomas. Put him and Totenberg in the same room together and blood would flow.

Anyway, congrats to the Olsons.
