Costco Bans Guns Fellow newslinks editor Bruce Kraft learned the hard way about Costco's gun ban. Below is his story.

. . . We arrived at the registers, and got rung out. I paid, and as we are getting ready to head out, Brian came up and said that "for the comfort and safety" of their employees and guests, he asked that I leave my gun outside.
I said "No problem, sorry if I caused any fuss." I then asked if this was the policy of the Eden Prairie store, or a company-wide policy. He said it was company policy. I asked if I could get some sort of written statement or copy of the policy, because there were 35,000 permit holders in the state of Minnesota alone who were going to want to know about it.
Oh, and since they didn't want me in their store could they please return my groceries. Brian said "Oh, no, your perfectly welcome to shop here, we just" at which point I cut him off saying "You just asked me to leave, so obviously I am *not* welcome here, and neither is my money." (I have played out scenarios like this in my mind for several years, it was gratifying that he kept giving me all the right straight lines).

Bruce continues:
"BTW, their letter is misleading, I never raised the issue of civil rights, because I firmly believe that companies have every right to ban whomever they please, I just think it is not fair for them to hide the fact."

This is a batle that wasn't worth fighting. By demanding that his groceries be returned to the shelves, this happy gun toting guy gained nothing and gave the image that all gun owners could be as anxious for an argment as he is.
If Mr. Gun Toter can't shop at Costco now, it is his loss, not Costco's ...
Whaddaya expect?? Costco is a completely liberal enterprise, and supports all the leftist/union agendas. And yet people here at FR bitch and moan about Wal-Mart, which mostly does not.
Well, then don't shop at Costco and the problem is solved. The checkout lines are too long already.
How did they know he was armed?
OK, have him try this at Sam's Club and see what happens. If they have no problems with it then you've got a case.
At our Costco stores, there is a sign before one enters which says no firearms allowed.

I do not like Sam's Club or Wal-mart for meat products. They always look like they are days old.
I have to tell you that Costco has the best meats and best bakery items of any store where I live.
Obviously it wasn't that concealed.
All this guy did was post an item so that we could be more fully informed of a company's policy so that we could decide if we wished to do business there. If this is not of interest to you then simply 'move along', there is no need to attack the message bearer

Actually its Costco's. Costco is there to sell their products to people like him and I.
Their service sucks, their stores are ugly, and their prices are higher than regular stores.
On top of all this they make deals with local governments to acquire land through forced sale of private property. One example is a city refused a church a building permit. Bought the land for under market cost, and then sold it to Costco for $1. Their goal was the increased taxes.
They are so busy, nobody goes there anymore.
Kind of a confusing story. The guy was already rung up and heading out the door and then got asked to leave his gun outside? Seems to me that's exactly what he was doing anyway, leaving the store. The time to check your guns at the door would be before you enter.
I'm guessing he was CC but his concealment wasn't so good. Some places you can be fined for openly displaying a gun, even if your intent was to wear it concealed.
Why? If Costco doesn't want guns in their stores it's their business. I've seen many a freeper bitch and moan about the nonsmoking laws in restaurants and the rallying cry that the restaurant is a private business and no one has the right to tell them how to run it.
Don't see how this is any different. If the guy doesn't like it maybe he should try to buy a ton of voting stock and change the rules. Other than that the guy sounds like a friggin liberal troublemaker.
I like shopping at Costco and they dont know I have a gun when I go there :o)
We have found their prices to be much lower than the local stores. Then again, it does depend what you are looking for but overall, they are much cheaper and better quality, too.
Maybe it depends on where one lives as the customer service has been decent.
Yes, they are crowded but the lines move along rather fast.
