The Republicans' Egg-Scrambler (Rove Still Confident)
Real Clear Politics ^ | October 23, 2006 | Suzanne Fields

Karl Rove obviously keeps his portrait in the attic, like Dorian Gray, with deep lines in a furrowed brow and a taut mouth frozen in anger. Those things must be in the attic because they're not in his face.

The White House political strategist, now 55, is demonized with every category of epithet, but it doesn't show in his demeanor, either. The balding, graying adviser to the president, who has been called "evil genius," hypocritical manipulator of policy, puppeteer pulling the president's strings, looks younger and trimmer up close and personal in the most trying weeks of his life than when he first arrived in Washington nearly six years ago.

Over a lunch of chicken Caesar salad with editors and reporters at The Washington Times, he's jovial and optimistic going into the midterm elections that conventional Washington wisdom says are going the Democratic way. Recalling that one newspaper account described him as "inexplicably upbeat," we asked if he could be merely "explicable." He replied: "I'm confident we're going to keep the Senate. I'm confident we're going to keep the House." A moment later he amended this to "pretty confident," and added, "I liked it better before Foley."

Maybe he just has LEGITIMATE poll data, instead of the skewed sets that show a Democrat "win".

He knows that democrats leading in the polls in the lead-up to an election is nothing new. Only the ninnies get all worked up. America is majority Conservative, certainly not the ultra-liberal POS the democratic leadership has become.

ALOT of people don't respond to polls, conservatives most of all... to say nothing of the media/polling bias. But on election day, when millions of people give it a first thought, they don't go with the "everything sucks vote against bush" party.

"... victory at the expense of democratic integrity will be hollow."

Thanks! I'll add that to my list of oxymorons.

And welcome to Free Republic.

RE: Rove = "archislanderer" ????
Don't know what you mean. Can you please provide an example where Mr. Rove has ever slandered anyone?

But victory at the expense of democratic integrity will be hollow.

Please remember that we are not a "democracy". We are a "Representative Republic". There is a profound difference and is the reason why we have been stable for years while other "democracies" have risen and fallen.

I take issue with your "democratic integrity".

Dow 12000
Gas $1.25/gal San Jose
Employment - up

People vote their pocketbooks. Iraq is not on the radar of most Americans. Sure, they may know we're there. But they don't know we have 29,000 troups in South Korea or Troops Still in Germany, Troops in the Balkans, Haiti, and places I've forgotten.

IOW, come election day more people will know who won the World Series and which teams are likely to make the football playoffs.

Foley? Iraq? Wont register.
