NEW YORK (Fortune) -- Power may be corrupting, but it is also addictive. That's why no party likes to lose an election. But the truth is that sometimes a loss is just what is needed to regain a sense of purpose and energy. And that's why the Republicans need to lose in November.
In 1974, for example, Britain's Conservative Party lost. Disillusioned Tory voters failed to turn out and more than a few, tired of the tired Edward Heath, decided what the hell, and voted Labor.

What absolute crap. And some "journalist" at CNN thinks this is the most important financial story of the day, so it is at the TOP of CNN-Money's web site.
No media bias here.
No wonder CNN's market share is so small.

Actually, I thought the article made some good points.
NOT that the GOP somehow "deserves to lose" but that the Party is a bit stale and needs some kind of invigoration.
I don't feel that losing is a MUST for this, though. However, the history of Parties does make the losing streak the perfect imputes for such an invigoration!
And the article pegged the emptiness of the Democrat's position perfectly!

Those two points are contradictory. If losing led to invigoration why aren't the Democrats invigorated?

this is about as incompetent, dysfunctional and trivial a Congress as this proud nation has ever seen. Our R congressmen haven't done a great job by any means, but how about noting the obstructionism they have faced from day 1. Dems were the ones demanding the new congress be bipartisan and let's all work together. Crap! They started acting like children on day 2.

I don't think the 'pubs need to lose either, but the article did make some good points. It would be nice if others would read first and comment afterwards as well.

The Democrat party is currently run by Bolsheviks. I liked the way Ronald Reagan framed the entire issue between the U.S. and the Soviet Union during the Cold War:
"We win--they lose."
Let us act with the same clarity in defeating this domestic enemy.

You don't run faster by walking. You don't jump higher by sitting down. You don't ever win by losing. These people actually think we as stupid as Democrats.

You contradict yourself and expose the CNN article when you say the article pegs the Democrat's emptiness perfectly. They lost 12 years ago. Ideally they would have been reinvigorated, renewed, and full of new ideas on how to govern. So, what have they got? Cut and run and Foley. That's what 12 years out of power did for them.

the only thing republicans need to lose it watching cnn...if the advertisers realize how they have alienated at least half a nation's viewing audience, when the revenues completely dry up...cnn will shut down....
cnn's biggest audience is a captive audience....all airports have only one station playing....if Fox was aired...cnn would have the same viewership as the sinking ship at cbs!!!!

According to estimates in a September research report by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank where almost everyone can be expected to vote Republican, federal spending has risen 45 percent during Bush's presidency, three times as fast as it did under Bill Clinton. Is she wrong about this?
