Multiculturalism 'a big failure' : Spain's ex-prime minister Aznar

WASHINGTON, Oct 26, 2006 (AFP) - Multicultural policies in Europe have largely failed, former Spanish prime minister Jose Maria Aznar said Thursday on the one-year anniversary of riots by ethnic minorities in France.

"I believe that multiculturalism is a big failure," Aznar said, speaking at Georgetown University.

"I'm against the idea of multiculturalism. Multiculturalism divides our societies, debilitates our societies, multiculturalism does not produce tolerance, nor integration."

"And this is one of the reasons of the great failures in several European societies at this moment."

Aznar, a pro-US conservative who led Spain from 1996 to 2004, emphasized that laws must be administered equally toward everyone.

"This is the best way to integrate societies and to promote integration. To accept different laws, depending on the origin ethnic or the religion is a very serious mistake in our society," he said, speaking in English.

"For me, to establish different laws is absolutely unacceptable in a free society. This is one of the reasons (that) multiculturalism is a very, very serious failure in Europe."

Promoting multiculturism, as in various cultures with different values living together, is a destabilizing force.

And that's why it is so relentlessly pushed by the Left.

People prefer to be with their own - their own race, religion, cultural values, etc. It's one of the most obvious facts of life but few will admit it.

Aznar is one of the few Euros who gets it. He should have been the new Secretary General of the UN. The estupidos voted out his party after the Madrid bombings, but he is still fighting the good fight. I have heard him speak several times, and he is always right on target.

Yes,Aznar gets it.In fact,he gets it so well that Bin Laden saw fit to kill scores of Spaniards a few days before a national election so as to drive him from office.

Aznar gets it...but so very, very,*very* few of his fellow countrymen do.

And that's why *Bin Laden* won the last Spanish national elections.

Spain--and Western Europe in general--seem determined to relive the Middle Ages. Evidently, they're going to get what they want.

Well, based on his enemies, he's gotta be a good man. The need a lot more like him in Europe. Especially in France.

Aznar is a staunch free market conservative.By definition, Euro-weenies don't get it. Chirac is a Euro-weenie - not Aznar.

Au contraire! Multiculturalism undermined Western Civilization just as it was designed to do.

Spain was on the right track with Aznar. They took a huge leap backwards. I guess the good news is that the socialists are f*****g things up so bad, they conservatives may be back in power next time 'round.

However, Aznar didn't do himself any favors by focusing on the Basque separatists as the cause instead of on the Jihadists immediately after the blasts.

Multiculturalism is like forcing a bad marriage between two incompatible people, conflict and tension builds to a boiling point.

Well, reliving the middle ages might bring on a new renesance, and a new enlightenment.

Perhaps it is worth it :-)

Cheers.

Okay, this is confusing. In America the number one beneficiary of multiculturalism--perhaps the only real beneficiaries, at least among ethnic groups--is Hispanics. The one language we are having shoved down our throats isn't Yoruba, or Zulu, or Quechua, or Mayan, or Chinese, BUT SPANISH!!! Even Esperanto is accused of being "too European" while Spanish is treated as the most revolutionary, most "indigenous," and least "European" or "Western" language in the world--the language before which all "Western" languages must bow. And who is now complaining that multiculturalism doesn't work? A conservative in Spain (where Spanish is called "Castillian" and resented by the Basques, Catalonians, Galicians, Leonese, Aragonese, etc.).

No, I'm not slamming a Spanish conservative (or insisting that English must be more widely-spoken than Spanish in the world as a whole, or opposed to the idea of Americans joining the rest of the world in being multilingual. But I do find the irony delicious.

>In America the number one beneficiary of multiculturalism

Let's see-- The US
is made up of British folks,
and Dutch, French, German,

along with Chinese,
Africans, Irish -- and more!
I'd say our country

and the entire world
has gotten huge benefits
from the culture stew

the United States
has been from the very start.
The only people

who got screwed over
were Native Americans,
but nothing's perfect . . .
