Latest Polling: McClintock Up 4

by Brandon Powers - Los Angeles County 10-27-2006 5:00 pm

The results of Public Opinion Strategies’ latest tracking poll is in, and it has Lt. Governor nominee Tom McClintock up 4-points.

The survey, conducted over the last few nights with a sample of 800, has Tom up 39-35 with 15% undecided.

Further, of those who’ve already voted, Tom’s up even bigger: 43-35.

And despite attacks against him, Tom’s overall image rating remains in the neighborhood of 3:1, with his negatives still in the teens.

Last, of those left undecided, Tom’s image rating stands higher than Garamendi’s.

Going down to the wire, Tom stands in a great position to win.

This is consistent with all the other indications I'm hearing from within Tom's campaign.

He already got my vote (absentee) and I'm talking to everyone I know about voting for him. The state of CA sure has a lot to be embarrassed about (Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, and the list goes on). There is a severe shortage of brain cells in this state. The biggest joke of this CA election is the criminal-loving Jerry Brown running for AG. It's a "sick joke."

Great news. I have very seldom said anything positive about Arnold Schwarzenneger, but I think his coattails are helping. It's ironic, because he robbed McClintock of a shot at the governorship earlier, in the recall campaign, but now he's helping him, even if inadvertantly.

Just maybe when Arnold leaves office Tom might be the party's candidate for governor. He has certainly been a team player.

Excellent. Tom is the sharpest public servant in Sacramento, bar none.

And with a tip o' the hat to Lincoln Chafee, all our CA FReepers should cast a GOP vote for all our statewide candidates below Lt Gov and write in George Deukmejian for Governor. ;-D

Even Democrats like him. I have yet to hear a Californian who has a bad view of Tom, despite his conservative views being out of the mainstream in decidedly Democratic California. I think the odds are good he'll be elected Lt. Governor.

I saw one of Feinstein's ads last night. She was talking about her love for environment and how she has authored all these bills protecting wilderness etc.

I was hollering at the screen "then why did you vote for SB 2611, don't you think 100 million new immigrants over the next twenty years will impact our environment, you moron???!!!!!"

She is a hypocrite of the first order.

Go Tom!

I was at odds with him pushing his campaign all the way during the election during the recall, and that led to snipes by both GOP sides against each other. But now, I really want this guy in there - and with hard work, and constituenty buidling, I hope he can parlay this into the Governor's spot.

I agree. But Mountjoy has no chance. As long as Feinstein and Boxer decide to stay in the Senate, California's U.S Senate seats will remain in the hands of Democrats.

Its a tall hill to climb for a conservative to be elected Governor in California. Only a third of the voters are Republican, under half are Democrats and the rest are independents, most of whom lean Left.

The GOP must be scared. What can they do to stop this?

You mean the New Majority GOPers and RINOs? Yeah, they don't like Tom McClintock or any conservative.

Yep, except my brother says no, because McClintock is too conservative on social issues. He is voting for Arnold however. It is rare he departs from the Dem line, about as rare as I depart for the GOP line.

On another note, the WSJ has an article on Congressperson junkets to Europe for fun and frolic, usually by air force jets (against House rules) today, with meals paid for by lobbyists, mostly defense ones, also against House rules, with no records kept, also against House rules. Most of the House member perps stonewalled when contacted by the WSJ, either just saying they are following the rules, with no specifics, or not returning calls, including the execrable Jerry Lewis who is under federal investigation for corruption vis a vis a defense contractor who also happened to host one of his lavish dinners in Europe. Don't tell anyone, but the GOP really does deserve to lose control of the House. Power corrupts, and they have been in power too long. It is time a hostile force investigated them all, and made them sweat, and then sweat some more.

Reading the article gave me the urge to take a shower to wash off the stench.

She was vulnerable because of SB 2611. Mountjoy could have made some great political hay out of that issue. The campaign ads you could write on that issue alone....the mind boggles.

Plenty of people in California are fed up with the illegal immigration problem, including many Dems. Sprawl and overpopulation are their mantras, and Feinstein sold them out, big time.

The Republican Party should have put up a real fight, and they might have gotten a pleasant surprise.

I suspect McClintock support on this site is just about 100%. He appeals to just about all factions of the right of center voters, because he is just so damn smart, articulate, knowledgeable (the guy is a walking wikipedia when it comes to California finance) and honest. What you see, is what you get, and he answers all questions with authority and persuasiveness. He is also a nice guy, with a good sense of humor.

To use a physobabble term, the guy is "centered," which is more and more a rarity these days in politicians. Far too many are head cases, and just too involved in the power game because it feeds their egos.
