"Be sure to cite your firm conservative principles when you report to your local police station to surrender all your weapons and submit to government surveillance of all your thoughts, words, and deeds."

Ah yes, the "we're not quite as bad as the other guys" strategy. Truly inspiring.

I can't disagree with what Armey said, but I don't believe that it's the main reason for the Donkey juggernaut.

It's the main reason for base discontent, but the Donkeys are being mobilized by the perceptions spoon-fed to them by the enemedia.

Though the Dems are worse and should be kept far away from power, that does not mean we should exempt the GOP from criticism.

No one is talking about "criticism," we're talking about allowing the DBM/dems to take over power because some conservatives think by NOT voting for republicans this supposedly will lead to things getting better?

It makes no sense!! Criticize Rinos all you want, but FGS don't allow DBM/dems to take power just because specific things haven't happened yet with Republicans. I think Chaffee's a friggin nightmare too, but the ONLY alternative is handing power over to his buddies in the ass party. At least you have some sort of check on the moderate rino's with the Repubs in power.

The most important issue of our time is wiping out terrorism and defeating this evil scurge which crawls upon the planet like a rabid animal. It ain't gonna happen with the coddling, lying, power hungry, hatefilled, dictator loving impeachment pressing, buggedeyed popping Pelosi DBM/dems taking control of congress, now is it?

You misread me completely. Republicans are going to lose seats because they act like Democrats. That is my message, and that is what Armey is saying. That the current Republican leadership screwed up and valued power over policy, is not the fault of the base. The leaders have failed the party. Of course the MSM wants the base to get the wrong message. Do you think that Republicans give a rat what the NYT or the WAPO says? I sure don't. In fact most of us go 180 degrees opposite from what their editorial pages read. BTW keep your eye rolls and pontification to yourself.

I wouldn't call it defeatism. Armey isn't saying don't vote, and he isn't hoping for a rout. Just the opposite. What he is saying is that the Repubs in Congress have failed the base. That I certainly agree with. I don't want us to make nice with Kennedy or Pelosi. I want them embarassed, defensive and ridiculed. I don't care if they say hello in the Senate lunchroom. I could care less which parties our Congressmen get invited to. Armey is saying (and I agree) that policy matters and legislative achievment matters. We have to be better than the RATS, not just different.

My goal is to hold the Repubs accountable. Contrary to what you have said, I never made the argument that the Rats can or will do better.

And stop using the WOT as an excuse not to follow the constitution. I am fed up with the idea that there is some necessity that allows the government to ignore the constitution. If the govt is going to suspend habeus corpus then the Congress has to vote the war power to do it - not just let the Executive do what it wants. Then we get to hold the Congress and the Executive accountable for what it does at the next election.

We agree on a heck of a lot. I would like to see the dems ended as a political opponent. Too bad so many in the Republican party don't seem to want that.

Could it be that Dobson really is an ass? Based on what I have read (and I have specifically researched this issue) I agree with Armey.

It could be. However, I know someone who is near the top of the Focus on the Family organization. And while I've been told Dobson is far from perfect, he's hardly the villain he is portrayed to be by the libs, the MSM, and a handful of disgruntled former employees. And it's ridiculous to categorize those who appreciate Dobson's efforts (they would number in the millions) as a "gang of bullies and thugs".

But that's not even the issue. During the election cycle, what is the political point of ridiculing the very group (the "values" voters) which finally gave the GOP enough mass to escape permanent minority status? Does Dick Armey really believe that purging the values voters from the GOP will lead to the triumph of the conservative cause? Armey's deluded if he really believes that.

And stop using the WOT as an excuse not to follow the constitution.

Let's see, Uphold sacred constitution,....thousands, possibly million killed by dirty domb...uPPPPhold sacred Constitution,....THOUSANDS, possibly MILLIONS murdered by TERRORIST dirty bomb...Hmmmm??? Who says were not following the constitution, other than the DBM/dems activist judges who try to usurp it every chance they get? NOT conservatives!

My point is not that you've said DBM/dems will do better, it sounds as if you'd be willing for them to be in control of congress over Repubs just because some rino repubs have ruined your constitutional fantastic dream.

Look, the reality is if DBM/dems win this election we will be worse off, much worse off to the point of possibly ceasing to protect ourselves because the DBM/dems wanta hold hands with the terroist, give them a BILL OF RIGHTS, and sing Kumba-FRIGGIN-Ya!!!

I want the same thing you want, but not at the expense of protecting me, my family, and all freedom loving responsible citizens of the world from these evil asswipe, moongod, revenge loving terrorist.

It's about the WOT...Sherlock! (Only substituted because I know you're certainly not stupid, infact quite the opposite.)

Please re-read post #15 several times.
If the GOP loses you know damn good and well the spin will be "Republican Voters tired of Right Wing Agenda" and the DC Politicians (both parties) Will jump through hoops to prove they are "moderates"
Rather than getting the message they were too Left...GOP politicians will begin to emulate McCain types. The fact that you don't see this troubles me.
Also you are sooooooooo pissed in your post. Yet you give the obstruction of Democrats as well as their MSM accomplices a 100% pass.
How nice it must be to sit on your throne in front of a computer & pass judgment on those who are in the trenches fighting the fight. Its easy to be a genius when you don't actually have to participate in the game.
(except of course complain) I guess if all 300 million Americans would simply subscribe to your way of running the government all would be "RIGHT" with the world
PLEASE ADDRESS MY POINTS. YOU HAVE ALREADY GIVEN ME YOUR EXCUSES. TYVM

You are right. Money is the mother's milk of politics, but when a party becomes obsessed with collecting it, then the inevitable corruption begins.

"Expect the punditocracy to proclaim that Republican voters are tired of being led by the party's conservative wing, and that it's time to turn to more moderate leaders such as McCain."
Expect the Republican Party to sink further into the dust bin of forgotten losers.

Forty years of minority status was not enough to teach them the error of their ways.

You ignore Conservatives at your own peril.

One problem is, as Limbaugh says we really don't have a conservative leader in power. Hastert is so obsessed with getting goodies for his district that he did not for a moment consider stepping down, taking one for the team. Well, win or lose, Haster is not going to be Speaker come next January.
