CALIFORNIA'S CHOICE - Angelides: Wants to finish strong and score election upset
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 10/29/6 | Carla Marinucci

Posted on 10/29/2006 10:14:07 AM PST by SmithL

Democratic candidate Phil Angelides was shocked to discover earlier this year that his 17-year old daughter, Arianna, had a listing on MySpace.com -- a social Web site all the rage among teens.

It told a story a dad could be proud of: full of heartfelt praise ("he's pretty fly for a white guy") and starring an affectionate family photo of Angelides, exuberantly hugging his daughter at a father-daughter dance.

Though the snapshot of the two-term state treasurer was a charming, unscripted moment that might have softened the profile of usually staid Angelides, the public will never see it: The candidate resolutely refused a newspaper permission to use it. Then the daughter's Web site was privatized and "scrubbed" of the photo to ensure that it would not be accessed again.

For Angelides, who is in an uphill battle with Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the story underscores a persistent challenge for his campaign: In the nation's most populous state, and after pursuing the state's top job for more than a year, Angelides remains a blank slate to many California voters.

. . . They praised Angelides as a strong supporter of a woman's right to choose; a supporter of same-sex marriage, driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants and universal health care. They say he would be a governor who would "fully fund" education and be a "true environmentalist.''

Sorry Carla, the slate's not that blank. We know more than enough.

More wishful thinking by the MSM.
In this case I guess it's obvious.

This is why conservatives, Republicans, moderates, anyone with any sense needs to get out and vote for Arnold to defeat Angelides with a huge margin, to send a message that we reject what Angelides stands for. Remember, the overwhelmingly Dem Legislature will keep passing these bills and Angelides would sign them, while Arnold has been vetoing them as they came up and will continue to do so.

Angelides is a poor excuse for a Greek American...just like Dukakis...a failure morally and spiritually.

What an embarrassment!

Yeah but, Angelides is exactly what the true-blue DUmmie wing of the party wanted.

Crosslink: Winning over the voters is a question of good timing

"...would "fully fund" education.

I wish the Liberals and the NEA will just tell how much is enough.

Over 50% of the State budget is already mandated for "education".

What do they want? 100%.

The candidate resolutely refused a newspaper permission to use it.

Then, when he had sanitized it, he called his friend Carla Marinucci at the SF Chronicle and said, "Hey, Carla, my campaign is tanking! How about running this cute story about my daughter's web site?"

Angelides wants to finish strong and score election upset.

And I want to hear a news report that the Austrian fled back to Graz on Jan 15, 2007, but we are both going to be disappointed.

People need to be aware of Angelides' positions vs. Arnold's positions on the issues.

They are polar opposites, NOT "the same", as some trying to portray.

Democratic Assemblyman Mark Leno of San Francisco, a strong supporter, says Angelides' values are clear and far more consistent than those of the Republican incumbent.

Very true. And those values are being clearly rejected by the majority of Californian's, once again proving that what some want to paint as a completely Blue, Liberal state is anything but. The visions of Leno, Pelosi, Angelides and the rest of their whacked out leftist Marxist friends are clearly not in synch with Californians who overwhelmingly recalled Democrat Gray Davis and passed ballot measures opposing homosexual marriage (Prop 22) and illegal immigration (Prop 187)--to name but a few.

Yeah, Angelides defining himself as a father who loves his daughter (and whose daughter loves and respects him) would definitely turn off his supporters.

Better he publish lurid tales of sexual acts with minors like Webb did. That'll impress his base!

Angelides can't even make himself appear human to voters. His home stretch commercial features a used car salesman approach telling voters Arnold failed to deliver. I don't think he ever made the sale.

Voters like big spending as long as they don't have to pay for it. That's what passes for being a Democrat in California. Angelides' big mistake was telling them the party's over. Better start paying hefty taxes. Nah Uh.

Yeah, well I want the firm breasts I had as an 18 year old and an unlimited charge account - which is equally about as likely as Angelides winning the governorship. What a putz.

That's what passes for being a Democrat in California.

That same mentality has infested the Republican party, as well.
