"... Nevada will host the Democrats' second presidential caucus in 2008, right behind Iowa and ahead of the New Hampshire primary. Potential candidates have already begun arriving in the state. They're talking about their favorite casino games and showing a newfound interest in the state's parochial issues — water rights and the Yucca Mountain nuclear repository."

I think they came to Nevada to gamble, gamble that they will win in 2008 by going to a gambling state.

The Democrats control the state Legislature. And of course Harry Reid is the Senate minority leader - may become majority leader if the Democrats win the Senate in November.

Clark County is a reliable Democratic bastion.

I just don't get the gambling craze. I have friends who love it, but it's not something I could ever get into.

Must be the adrenaline rush of winning. Chasing your losses is the killer.

It's about time Nevada became a major player I just hope the republicans can get a clue and protect the states many resources. And they not gambling and prostitution.

It didn't use to be that way. Nevada was a very Libertarian state. Then the Californians, sick of their state and its income tax, decided to retire to Nevada where they got the equivalent of an 11% raise. Only thing, they didn't realize that it was their votes that f***ed California in the first place, continued to vote the same way after they moved to Nevada, and are now f***ing that state up as well.

I took my kids the last time he was here. It was exciting. There's no way you could be in the same room with him and not get excited about America's future.

I still believe he was and is the right man for our times.

more than half of the people who live in Las Vegas don't gamble at all. Gambling is mostly for tourists just like going to Disneyland is for people who live in L.A. Los Angelinos don't go to visit Mickey all the time and most Las Vegas residents don't hit the tables or slot machines. But they do pass them on the way to the buffets or movie theatres.

Not as long as we allow Dingy Harry to continue converting "federal land" into ever expanding development for his buddy the developer!

L.V. only needs a few more denizens to seize control of the entire state and all it's resources.

Once they have the votes to totally control the legislature the rural counties are toast.
LV will seize our water, restructure state taxes to their sole advantage, move the capitol, and pillage us at will in ways we have not yet imagined.

LV should have been "built out" years ago, which would have protected the balance of the state from their liberal lunacy, while limiting Pinky's influence and base.

Instead the Fed. continues to "sell" land it does not legally own, having never legitimately purchased it, their claim to ownership is bogus, it flaunts the "Equal Footing" clause of the U.S. constitution.

Sierra Harry screwed our Nevada natural resources with the "Black Rock NCA".

He basically put a very large, very mineral and geothermal rich, chunk of the state permanently off limits to exploitation of any meaningful kind.

Even driving through the area is now limited to a narrow designated track, it used to be my favorite area to "off-road", now there is no point in going.
After the BRNCA act, visiting that part of Nevada is like going to Disney Land, taking the "Small World" ride, and claiming to have seen the world.
