London, Ont., man, 19, warned after fake gun spotted in vehicle Saturday 09:49:13 EST Oct 30, 2006 Canadian Press TILBURY, Ont. (CP) - A London, Ont., man has learned imitation isn't the sincerest form of flattery - as far as police officers are concerned.

An ambulance attendant alerted Chatham-Kent provincial police Saturday evening after spotting what appeared to be a handgun on the dash of a vehicle in a service centre parking lot in Tilbury, Ont.

Police arrived and questioned the gun's owner, 19, who was on his way to a Halloween party.

It turns out the gun was a plastic replica, and part of the man's costume.

His outfit - none other than that of a SWAT team officer.

Police issued the man a warning, but no charges were laid.

I remember reading a story not long ago about a first grader who was suspended for bringing a gun to school.

The gun?

A G.I. Joe solder holding a rifle.

And not even a removable rifle at that.

Maybe the cops in Kanuckistan are brainwashed by the libs but there must be a better example than this story.

ambulance attendant alerted Chatham-Kent provincial police Saturday evening after spotting what appeared to be a handgun on the dash of a vehicle

If it looked real enough as many do, I'd want to know what the guy's malfunction might be. If he checks out okay....nothing to see here, move along

At least it wasn't a Jedi light saber. You do some real damage with one of those weapons!

I don't really have a problem with the cops or the person who reported this to them in this situation. In these days of wack-jobs going off on killing sprees, it doesn't hurt to be vigilant. No responsible gun owner would keep the gun on the dash board, so the observer has to make a descision - if the gun is real, the guy is an idiot and needs to be stopped - if the gun is fake, the guy is an idiot and needs to be warned to keep it out of site until he gets to his stupid party.

My son was suspended from one day of school last year for having something that "looked like a lighter" in his pocket.

Police issued the man a warning, but no charges were laid.

Was this a verbal warning, or a formal citation type warning. If verbal, what did it consist of? A warning that people may think your fake gun is real and shoot you in perceived self defense would be completely reasonable, unless the fake gun had the orange muzzle device or something else that made it obvious it was not a real gun.

Somehow I doubt that is what they warned about, or at least not just that.

I agree 100% with your post.

I don't agree with some of the Canadian gun laws but I'm hopeful that Mr.Harper will bring back some sanity on that issue.
I know many of my northern Brothers feel the same about that.
