Nevada's race for governor was barely a contest at all until it took a scandalous turn a few weeks ago, when a cocktail waitress accused Rep. Jim Gibbons of trying to sexually assault her in a parking garage after a night of drinking just off the Las Vegas Strip.
The lurid allegations in the closing weeks of the campaign have put the race back in play and put the one-time Republican front-runner on the defensive. Policy issues have taken a back seat to dueling news conferences, a burgeoning criminal investigation and a mystery over what exactly is on the parking garage's surveillance video.....

Oh, what a scene.
If the video were incriminating of the Republican, it would already have been leaked and shown and analyzed frame by frame on every TV station in Nevada, if not nationally. I vote not guilty.

Regardless of what happens or what the tape shows, he has some pretty piss-poor judgement in the company he keeps, this close to the election.

What's happened with this story! The whole thing sounds like a set-up, so why isn't Gibbons yelling to high heaven! This just isn't about his political future, this is an assault on his very character! I heard the original 911 call and the girl sounded bombed, slurring her words, etc. If this was a set-up, a criminal investigation must be done. The Garage video tape was ordered to be released yesterday, but we've heard nothing, and we only live an hour from Vegas, although not in Nevada. What the hell is going on????
Gibbons will win. I don't think most folks find her story credible. I said from day one if Gibbons was alone with a woman he doesn't know in the homestretch of his election, he is a remarkable moron.
I voted for him, though. But if the video completely exonerates him as his lawyer said, run it on tv. What is he waiting for? And if he grabbed her hot ass, run it on tv. Nevada may be one of the few states in the Union where he may gain votes for it. :-)
They just got the go ahead to see the video yesterday...they say neither of them are in the video. I believe the woman during the initial 911 call mentioned the video cameras. Wouldn't that be a weird thing for someone to say duringa 911 call?
Gibbons told police it "didn't happen." He said he walked Mazzeo toward her truck and helped her catch her balance after she tripped at the garage entrance. At a news conference with his wife at his side, insisted he had behaved like "an officer and a gentleman."It looks like she made up the offense.
Gibbons called the remarks defamatory and outrageous. Gibbons' lawyer, Don Campbell, called her an "exceedingly troubled young lady," and her friend, a Republican who had been part of the group in the bar, said "she needs to strongly consider seeking professional help."It's a good idea to never be alone with a woman who might possibly want to make a false accusation against you. Especially one who seems ripe for claiming "victim" status.
I was in a restaurant at lunch where the TVs were muted. But they were showing FOX and the topic was that the video was released today.

yes - and they showed nothing. i suspect we'll see more of her in playboy (very soon) than were seen on the tapes.
