WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Sen. John Kerry apologized directly to U.S. troops on Wednesday for comments about Iraq that had prompted a firestorm of criticism from Republicans and President George W. Bush.
"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended," Kerry said in a statement.
Kerry said earlier in the day he was sorry for a "botched joke" about Bush that was interpreted as a slam on the U.S. military. Republicans demanded a more direct apology and seized on Kerry's comments to students as a sign of Democratic weakness on national security.
Kerry told students in California on Monday that if they study hard they could do well but if they did not, "you get stuck in Iraq." His office said he misread his remarks and intended to say "You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush."
He should go over to Iraq and apologize to each one of them individually.
Last time I looked, a written statement posted on a website was not a direct apology.
He should go over to Iraq and apologize to each one of them individually.
My son will be waiting for him...lol
Kerry did it over the internet, wrapping his non-apology apology in another insult.
That Reuter's headline is a big fat lie.
"regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly "
Too late JFnK, 35 years too late.
He was against the apology until he was for it.
>>"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended," Kerry said in a statement.<<
Worthless Clintonesque non-apology apology. Dixie Chicks all over again.
WOOHOO!!!
I want an apology for his lying to us saying he would not apologize.
Direct? The only thing direct was his smears and the "I apologize to no one". MSM's propaganda machine, pumping out lies, again and still.
directly on his website - Teresa, order of rasins to go please.
Did he only issue a statement today.........was he not man enough to come out and say it in front of a camera?
More Reuters spinning, water carrying for Democrats. Posting something on your website (that rotates on and off the page with other items) is not a direct apology to the troops.
I wish he apologizes on Thursday or Friday... Anyway, Foley apologized and resigned, yet his name is still discussed by the MSM more than a month later. Kerry insulted everybody serving in Iraq, so the MSM should talk about him a bit longer...
The "non-apology" apology. Don't take responsibility for your words. Blame someone else for "misinterpreting" your words and "apologize" because some were offended by said "misinterpretation".
Can't be John Kerry without the obligatory dig at the GOP and of course, blame them for "causing this diversion" in the first place.
Arrogance knows no bounds, apparently.
Reuters, dutifully carrying water for Kerry and the DNC, characterizing his mealy-mouthed non-apology excuse as "apologizes."
Even if he did say this, which it seems he didn't, it doesn't sound like a sincere apology. The MSM/DNC needs to try again.
Reuters wants this over with just as fast as they can possibly bury it. There was a time when it would take only that and similar actions by AP and UPI to spike a story completely. That time is past.
Oh the bias of the media. This title doesn't exactly represent the facts.
I doubt he wrote it. One of his staffers did.
What a tool.
Yeah. Crystal Clear!
"You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush."
all your grammar are belong to us.
SO HE MEANT TO SAY if you get bad grades you end up POTUS and beating John Fn Liar Kerry in 2004 While fighting the GWOT. The problem with that is Bush got slightly higher grades in better schools than John Fn Liar.
I'm ashamed that John Kerry is from the United States.
Like hell he did.
He's basically continuing the theme they are stupid, by saying they (and we) are too dumb to understand what he said.
That's no apology, it's more of the same. Take it and shove it al-Reuters.
Great, now the DNC/Media will get back to the real issues, like Rush Limbaugh "making fun" of MJ Fox.
Wow. He still implies that the troops are stupid, because they "misinterpreted" his words.
I think the intended "joke" was worst than what he said! Am I missing something?
The old "non-apology apology." Nuance at its best!
I seriously doubt that most of the troops are going to be fooled.
As long as this is going to be repeated on thread after thread it might as well be noted again that Kerry is still putting the 'stupid' label on everyone who was offended.
The statment was posted on the Kerry blog by one of his toadies.
Let's see him in person, in his own words and before the nation actually apologizing to all service men and women.
Fake and NOT accepted.....
I'm sorry that you heard me wrong, is not an apology, Reuters.
Bullcrap, Mr. Kerry. I don't believe a word of it.
It's time to resign, Mr. Kerry. You don't belong in the United States Senate.
"Reuters wants this over with just as fast as they can possibly bury it."
Then it's our job to 'wave the bloody shirt' til Nov 7th.
"Kerry makes direct apology to troops"
Hardly.
DUmmies FrEaKiNg OuT! This on a thread which was PLEADING to not have anymore Kerry threads. They KNOW how bad this is:

Your son would be well advised not to hold his breath whilst 'waiting' ...
LOL!
Touche'....:)
I wonder if the voters in Massachusetts are proud of their hometown boy?
"I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended,"
In other words, "I feel sorry for you if you're TOO STUPID to see I was making a bad joke, you dumbasses."
