Threat Matrix: November 2006

Posted on 11/01/2006 8:20:24 PM PST by nwctwx

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
The Price of Victory
-Full Story-

The "bombshell" revelation from last April's National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), which was leaked to the New York Times in September, was that the war in Iraq had resulted in more terrorism, not less. As reported by United Press International's Claude Salhani, "Did we really need 16 intelligence agencies to tell us that? Ten minutes of watching the newscast of your choice, from Al-Jazeera to Fox News, would be enough to convince most observers." But the key question is why the war has provoked the global Jihad.

One answer has to be the influence in the Arab world of the America-
hating network Al-Jazeera
. The AIM DVD on "Terror Television" shows film footage of captured terrorists saying they came to Iraq to kill Americans because of the words and images on Al-Jazeera.

Thank you for your posts - especially the one about the Iranian military exercises in the gulf. That is one to watch for certain.

Russia defends sale of missiles to Iran

Snip: "I wish to underline that these systems cannot be used in offensive operations," Sergei Ivanov told Russia Today television. "Secondly, they have a limited use as they are capable of protecting a small part of the Iranian territory."

Moscow has refused to bow to Western pressure and cancel its $US700 mln ($A905.5 mln) contract to sell 29 Tor-M1 air defence missile systems to Iran which was signed last December.

Revocation of Honduran visas

Snip: Honduran-American relations have been rocked by scandal over the past month as three high-profile Hondurans, among them one ex-president and two government ministers, have had their visas revoked. Despite the frenzy created among local media, the government of Manuel Zelaya has reacted calmly to the incident, deciding not to jump to any immediate conclusions. However, as the dust settles it appears that at least one of the ex-government ministers may be up for indictment very soon.

In each case the men were detained upon trying to enter the U.S. and later deported back to Honduras.

MS-13 seen as growing threat

Snip: Shortly after midnight in late September, a Texas National Guard soldier with night-vision equipment spied four figures slipping through the brush and alerted Border Patrol agents. The men were arrested, and one in particular stood out for the extensive tattoos across his face, body and arms. Wilmer Matamoros, 23, a Mara Salvatrucha gang leader, was imprisoned earlier this year in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. A fingerprint check showed Santos Chileno-Gomez, a 23-year-old Salvadoran, had been deported for an assault on a Long Island, N.Y., police officer. His lengthy criminal record -- and the tattoos -- labeled him as a member of Mara Salvatrucha 13, a vicious international street gang that federal authorities call one of the most violent in the U.S. Mr. Chileno-Gomez is among 76 MS-13 members apprehended by the Border Patrol in the Rio Grande Valley during the just-ended fiscal year.

The Eye of The Storm - In a secret, high-tech spy hub near Washington, the war on terror is 24-7
US News & World Report - ^ | October 29, 2006 | kevin Whitelaw

Posted on 10/30/2006 4:14:22 PM PST by RDTF

Every weekday at 8 a.m., Kevin Brock hefts a thick white ring binder onto a sleek, oval conference table. Labeled "Read Book," the deceptively plain folder houses the "Threat Matrix," a top-secret compendium of the most troubling reports of possible terrorist activity, drawn from the nation's 16 intelligence agencies. It is thicker than usual on a recent Monday morning, packed with 66 separate items that came in over the weekend. Brock, the principal deputy director of the National Counterterrorism Center, is about to brief some of the government's most senior officials on the latest threat information.

-snip- Facing a wall of secure video feeds, Brock watches top leaders from a dozen key players gather-the CIA, the FBI, the eavesdroppers at the National Security Agency, even the White House. A briefer from the center, running through the 18 items, discusses possible terrorist action in south Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, even inside the United States. Brock raises the recent release of a videotape showing two of the September 11 hijackers smiling for the camera. He pays particular attention to overseas threats that have a possible domestic angle. "NCTC was created to ... ensure the handshake occurs between international intelligence collection and the FBI or others within the country to take action," says Brock, a career FBI agent. "And we're seeing that take place on almost a daily basis."

Document CMPC-2003-016112.pdf contains Iraqi Intelligence memos from December 2000 to January 2001 that talk about a coming meeting between Saddam regime and French officials. In these memos the Iraq put some talking points to discuss with the French and among them is one where they want to ask the French to provide them with information about “US and Zionist Intelligence activities against Iraq”. Also in the talking points the Iraqi wants to ask France to support them in the UN Security Council.

Anyone who questions why France was against the removal of Saddam regime will get a clear idea from this document about the France despicable behavior during the run to the war and after the war. France is not an ALLY.

2003 Document: Hundreds of Palestinian Terrorists to Join Saddam And Fight US Troops (Translation)

Posted on 10/26/2006 6:01:13 PM PDT by jveritas

Document CMPC-2003-015588.pdf which is dated March/25/2003 talks about a meeting between Iraqi Officials in Damascus and the leaders of the Popular Front For the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) a terrorist group lead by Ahmad Gibril. The Palestinians pledged 500 fighters including groups that they call “Istish’Hadeyea” which means “Suicide Martyrdom” i.e. “Suicide Terrorists” to come to Iraq and fight the US lead collation troop. The group also included terrorists who are IED experts and car bombs experts. These hundreds of Palestinians terrorists were to go to Iraq through Syria. The Iraqis approved this Palestinians offer, and in handwritten note over the typed memo; “Taha Yassin Ramadan who is Saddam Chief Deputy” not only approved it but he wanted to know the time of arrival of these terrorists and where to meet them on the Syrian/Iraqi borders so they can send the vehicles to pick them up. What is also interesting in the memo is that the PLF was working with Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other Palestinian Organizations to increase the suicide operations they call it “Feedaeya” inside Israel so it will coincide with the war against the coalition troops.

This is another document which proves that it was Saddam Hussein who brought the “Foreign Terrorists” to Iraq, those terrorists that have caused so much death and destruction to the Iraqi people and Iraqi infrastructures and they are still doing it until now. Other documents that have been translated and posted here on FR talk about the Iraqi training the “Foreign Terrorists” and a Saddam memo to treat them as equally as the Iraqi Special Forces.

"Judge Blocks Pennsylvania Town's Immigration Crackdown"

Updated: November 1st, 2006 11:40 AM EDT
By MICHAEL RUBINKAM
Associated Press Writer

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A federal judge on Tuesday blocked the city of Hazleton from enforcing a pair of ordinances targeting illegal immigrants, just hours before the measures were to go into effect.

The measures, approved by City Council last month, would have imposed fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and denied business permits to companies that give them jobs. They also would have required tenants to register with City Hall and pay for a rental permit.

U.S. District Judge James Munley ruled that landlords, tenants and businesses that cater to Hispanics faced "irreparable harm" from the laws and issued a temporary restraining order blocking their enforcement.

"We find it in the public interest to protect residents' access to homes, education, jobs and businesses," he wrote in a 13-page opinion.

Hispanic groups and the ACLU sued Hazleton on Monday, contending that the laws trample on the federal government's exclusive power to regulate immigration.

The plaintiffs include the Hazleton Hispanic Business Association, landlords, a restaurateur and several illegal immigrants facing eviction, including children who attend public schools."

hree killed in Assam bomb Blast
Pakistan Times Wire Service

GUWAHATI: At least three people were killed and 20 injured in a powerful explosion at a crowded marketplace in India's northeastern state of Assam, officials said Saturday.

Suspected militants of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) triggered the blast Friday at a busy vegetable market in Dhekiajuli town, about 140 kilometers (87 miles) north of Assam's main city of Guwahati, police said.

"The market was crowded with evening shoppers when the powerful bomb went off," Assam police intelligence chief Khagen Sharma told foreign news agency.

"At least 12 of the injured are stated to be critical," the police official said.

Two paramilitary troopers were among the injured. Sharma said the bomb was concealed in a bag and kept on a bicycle in the centre of the market.

No one has claimed responsibility.

American forces killed an Al-Qaeda chieftain in the lawless western Iraqi city of Ramadi by destroying his car with a laser guided bomb, the US military said Thursday.

"Rafa Abdul Salam Hamud al-Ithawi, also known as Abu Taha, was the emir of Shamiyyah," it said.

"He frequently harboured foreign fighters who entered Iraq illegally in order to assault innocent Iraqis and coalition forces."

Ithawi was killed on Wednesday along with his driver, "diminishing the al-Qaeda in Iraq network," the statement said.

"Muslims arrested in Old Bailey demo"

Last Updated: 2:17am GMT 02/11/2006

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Four Muslims were arrested outside the Old Bailey yesterday during angry protests against the trial of a man allegedly involved in protests against Danish cartoons.

Anjem Choudary, who helped organise the anti-Danish protests, was once more involved as was Abu Izzadeen, who confronted John Reid, the Home Secretary, on a recent visit to East London.

Mr Choudary said afterwards: "We should not be surprised at people doing something like 7/7. How else do you expect Muslims to express themselves?
