[history]
One of the men in a buzz-generating photograph taken in Iraq is a St. Cloud police sergeant, St. Cloud Police Chief Dennis Ballantine said.
Marty Sayre is one eight soldiers in a photo poking fun at Sen. John Kerry that is making the rounds on the Internet. The photo shows the National Guard soldiers holding a sign that says Halp us Jon Carry we R stuck hear N Irak.
The sign is a riff on comments Kerry made Monday to a group of college students. You study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you dont, you get stuck in Iraq, he said.
The comments immediately became fodder in a heated midterm election battle that has focused on the war in Iraq.
Kerry later said it was a bad joke and apologized to anyone he offended.
Ballantine said he received an e-mail from Sayre, who said he was in the photograph. Sayre wrote that the photo was meant for family and friends and was surprised by the attention it has gotten, Ballantine said.
Ballantine said he was happy to see the photo, because its proof that Sayre is alive and well.
Ballantine also pointed out that Sayre has a bachelors degree.

Again, proud in Minnesota - more proof that this is an authentic grass-roots event by our brave troops in Iraq.

Doesn't matter what their grades are, Kerry is above them because he served 3 months, got 3 purple OoWwie's, and ran home.

Can we get a link to the photo so that it can make the grand rounds? Or did I miss the photo while I was in the hospital. (It seems the joke and the belated apology both occured while I was confined to same, said...)
If I did miss, can someone direct me so that I may forward.

I sure hope these soldiers don't get in trouble.
Technically, I suppose they shouldn't be making political statements while in uniform. If so, I hope they get cut a little slack.

Reading all the information on FreeRepublic about this great photograph, my conclusion is that the only stupid person is John "Stupid" Kerry. And I think our military absentee votes should be sent to a military outfit where they can be counted honestly. No way would I trust the Democrats with these precious votes.

I've had the same hopes -- that there will be no backlash on our troops. I read one article today that quoted an unnamed Army official commenting on the photo, saying he's always amazed at the creativity of the troops ... while it's from an unnamed source, it sounded right on to me.
My other big thought is what is the dem party going to try to do to suppress the military votes after THIS?

Reader David Ward writes:
Thank you for your great work and especially the coverage of the picture of the soldiers mocking "Jon Carry."
My daughter is on the far right in the picture. We spoke to her last night and again this morning. They are quite astounded at the coverage. They were furious at Kerry's remarks and wanted to do something. I guess they did.
Yours truly,
David Ward

I don't see how these troops can get in trouble for emailing a joke photo to their families in Iraq. Their assigned military lawyer could easily argue that it was a private joke that slipped out into public view without their intending it.
Sure, the Democrats could put them through the wringer. But . . . should they want to? This story has enough legs already. Would the congressional Democrats really want to be seen persecuting a group of American soldiers because they took exception to Kerry's demeaning insult?
Bring it on! I can't imagine anything more stupid and destructive to the Democrats than to do something like that. What, Schumer and Kennedy getting up and demanding that the troops in Iraq should be punished for telling the truth about Kerry? I don't think so.

What the US Army recruiting poster under "President" Kerry would look like:

Our brave warriors n Irak respond to Jon Carry"

Kerry is no different re his hatred of a strong America and our warriors than 99.9% of the rats in congress. Every rat running for election should have to face a copy of this banner everytime they show their treasonous faces. Pelosi, Murtha, Clintoon, Boxer, Kennedy, Durbin, Levin, Rangle, Reid and other rats in congress hate our military and a strong America. Just look at their voting records the past two years as President Bush pointed out this week.
Kerry is shown leading his fellow hate America and our military Rats to their final destination in American Politics:

Vote against all traitors this election day. Support our troops and their CIC, President Bush.

TY for both the bigger pic & the well wishes.
FYI, it was chest pains secondary to the (small) ulcer which was secondary to the GERD. For extra fun, it all may have started or was further irritated by Meckel's diverticulum, which is now not flared up. [At least we know that Meckel's (or sometimes spelled Merkel's) is there and can try to avoid further problems of all of the above.] Sure glad it wasn't my heart at such a young age.

It looks to me as if they are exercising their First Amendment right: The one that allows citizens "...to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
I would stay that banner is a very large 'petition'. And their grievance is stated in that very large 'petition'.

True.
It reminds me of the old BeeGees song, "I started a joke...":
I started a joke, which started the whole world crying,
But I didn't see that the joke was on me, oh no.
I started to cry, which started the whole world laughing,
Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.
I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes,
And I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that I'd said.
Til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.
I looked at the skies, running my hands over my eyes,
And I fell out of bed, hurting my head from things that I'd said.
'til I finally died, which started the whole world living,
Oh, if I'd only seen that the joke was on me.
