Political insiders have expressed alarm after 12 voter smartcards have gone missing from one Shelby County, TN early vote location!
The cards are used to activate electronic voting machine.
The location at the center of the controversy is Bishop Byrne High School on E. Shelby Drive in Memphis.
The polling place started out with 25 cards. By Wednesday, 11 were missing, says an eyewitness.
The location was given 5 more smartcards on Thursday.
And another card went missing!
As of Friday morning, a total of 12 smartcards had gone missing, out of the 30 give to the location.
Someone possessing a smartcard could use 'off the shelf equipment' [equipment that reprograms the card] and alter it to be used multiple times, and cast multiple votes.
One concerned insider explains: "Shelby County Board of Elections has been notified. They said is was 'not a big deal' because, they said, the cards are deactivated. But the reality is, you can buy the equipment at computer stores to reactivate them. It's on the Internet how to reactivate the cards!"
Meanwhile, The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reviewing reports by the Shelby County Election Commission that two people voted twice during early voting in Memphis.
Dist. Atty. Gen. Bill Gibbons said he's referred the cases to the TBI for investigation along with other matters he declined to discuss.
Poll watchers are expected to turn out Tuesday to observe voting in Tennessee's heated U.S. Senate race between Chattanooga Republican Bob Corker and Memphis Democrat Harold Ford Jr.

The smart card is like a credit card that the voter inserts into the Diebold voting machine and it enables the voter to cast the vote. The vote is then tabulated electronically in the machine itsel.
So whomever has the cards, can cast as many votes as they have cards!
I am assuming that they can change the codes.
That headline will prove to be the most hype-to-reality ratio in the history of his site. There's no software on those cards. It's basically an electronic version of a key that allows you to use the voting machine. And even so, it's no good until you enable it via yet another machine. They'll turn up in somebody's trunk or closet by the end of the day.
This is the beginnning of the Democrat Election Cheating...it happens every Election.

These things should not be thrown about lightly. Just because some cards are missing doesn't mean something bad is happening. It is irresponsible and harmful to our nation to lightly toss allegations of voter irregularity. If people lose confidence in our electoral process, our nation is over.
John Fund was on Ingraham yesterday talking about voting fraud. We remember the past 2 elections when the Dems
claimed voting machines were rigged, or Diebold has GOP
connections, etc. He said don't be too surprised to have
many races "undecided" for awhile. Absentee ballots (in
some cases not counted till days after the elections)
might mean we may not know the winner right away in a close
election.
And then there's the fine policy of dead people voting--see recent story. In NYC 4 out of 5 of these dead voters
voted for Democrats. Picture: moonbats (especially union
people) scanning the paper to see obituaries, and they find out in what precincts these people lived. Show up at
polling place which doesn't ask for ID: "Address?"
"123 Main Street."..."Name?"..."(Recently deceased)..."

There's been talk btw that most military people vote
absentee (overseas etc.) and the Kerry scandal happened
too late to affect this...though I'm also hearing some
kind of e-voting, like by email, is going on so maybe
it could help push the military vote our way after all...
Oh, and once the card is enabled it's good for 15 minutes, for one vote.

Dems in Memphis have to make these claims to try and offset the scrutiny about the dead vote that plagued some of Ford's relatives not too long ago. Having family members in the Funeral Home business may have paid off for this family for quite some time.
What will SCREW the Democrats is that this time, Reports of Democrat Vote Fraud will not be ignored, because thier moonbat base made allegations of a "Stolen Election" thier basis for hating Bush.

A number of metro area people were not too happy Thursday evening after discovering their names and addresses printed in a local paper.
The Tennessee Tribune published hundreds of names and addresses of people who did not vote in the August primary, the last election.
Silas Allen, 65, said it came as a shock. He had no idea his name was printed in the weekly paper that focuses on issues in the African-American community. He wasn't too pleased.

racism? What's the matter...don't they like white folks in Tennessee?
Don't the cards have to be "activated?"
When I go to my electronic voting precinct, I check in with photo id and voter card. Then the poll worker takes a smart card, puts it in a little machine, activating it, and then I can vote with it.
After I've cast my vote, I discard the smart card in a bin, and I'm supposing they are recycled for the next group of voters.
I don't know the technology, but it looks to me like they have to insert it in that machine before I can vote with it.
Who would benefit from destroying the election? Democrats. Ford was losing big.

So good, let's bring voter fraud to the forefront of national attention and do all we can stamp it out.
Show up in person at polls with valid state photo ID, purple fingers, the works.

Seems to me they can recode the machines to prevent this now that they know the cards are missing.

I hope you're right. If they have early voting, though, it could be a disaster there already. Man, I hope not. Tampering would allow Ford, who's losing big, to win in a landslide.
We're going to need a Constitutional Amendment to stop this.
Have been voting on an electronic machine here in NJ for years. Never a problem that couldn't be immediately resolved.

There is no low too low for the dems.
There was NOTHING wrong with the 2000 election other than the dems trying to disenfranchise the military vote in FL. Nothing to do with the machines.
And the count went against Gore/LIEberman so they brought up false charges that were disproven.
I don't put much stock in that story at face value. I don't believe the last sentence at all.
In the same sense, you can buy equipment "off the internet" to re-record the magnetic stripe on your credit card to somebody else's number, but how do you pick a valid "somebody else's number"?

I really don't know if they can stuff the ballot box. I believe the cards must first be coded by the election official after the voter shows ID. Then the voter uses the coded card to open the voting machine to make the voting screen come up. I could be wrong, but those who stole the cards would not really be able to use them since they are not coded. Anyone know for sure??
At least Jimmah Carter won't have to travel as far to support the leadership.
