Seventh District race gets dirty [Carson, IN-07]
WHTR-13 ^ | 11/3/06 | David MacAnally

Indianapolis - For the first time in a decade, Congresswoman Julia Carson is in a tough race for re-election. Her campaign started running a batch of positive image ads on the same day National Democrats go after her Republican opponent with the gloves off.

Her yard signs sell love, but there is no love in fliers hitting some 7th District mail boxes attacking Congresswoman Julia Carson's opponent.

"I'm absolutely shocked and appalled," says Republic Eric Dickerson.

The ads were done by the National Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in Washington and not by Congresswoman Carson. Carson told Eyewitness News "I'm outraged by it."

One mailer we were given reads: "What's worse? A candidate for congress who beats his wife, bites his kid, and goes to jail or a candidate who lies about it? Eric Dickerson was accused of doing both."

Most of the local Rep poll workers are older white women and the problem is that much of Miss Julia's power is concentrated in areas of town where these women(probably justifably so) won't work(last election there was a woman voter raped in the parking lot of one of the polling places as she left around noontime). When we controlled the sheriff's office Rep. deputies were given the day off to work these polling places, but now that the Dem own that office that is no longer done. So basically you will have Julia's people as the only ones working many of these polling places and I highly doubt they will spend much time enforcing the ID law on Tuesday.

Are you talking about the east side or the west? There are only two places (neighborhoods) in Indy that my Black friends tell me never to go to at night...everywhere else is pretty much safe...

I have been in the west side "hood" during the day on business with no problem. I'm not sure if I would go to a polling station there though. A police officer was killed there.

The east-side neighborhood is where most of the murders happen (day or night) so I'd say it's pretty much a no go area.

This is really interesting - if Dickerson wins this one, the Dems are in a lot of trouble.

I think Eric Dickerson is EXACTLY what Indy needs. Most everyone in Indiana has to go to Indianapolis to do business and a lot of us work there everyday.

Come on Indiana! Our capital needs Eric.

IMO Eric needs to just humorously turn in around on her.....The only one I'm going to "Beat" is Julia Carson on election night.

I've seen these kinds of nasty lies take down one of the best men in Indiana.

Eric refuses to take national (GOP)money because he doesn't want to run a smear campaign but the DCCC is smearing him from here to kingdom come.

I'm thinking he is choking on this nice guy thing.

Julia is a has-been who is basically a shell for the national dems to do with what they will.

Please Eric...get the word out.

Can you use the call in method? I think the number is on his website.

I guess I could try that, but the idea of calling some stranger and giving credit card info is not appealing.

"...but the idea of calling some stranger and giving credit card info is not appealing."

I hear ya. All this tech "convenience" is a pain sometimes. I had my card # stolen once and had to wait for the credit card company to pay me back. Someone bought themselves a camera in NY at my expense. LOL. It took about four or five days to get the money back in my account. Then sometimes when you go to use the dumb cards at a store they won't read.... :(

I guess it's a crap shoot however you use it. You have to trust the restaurant and store clerks too. Over the internet seems more trustworthy, for whatever reason. Calling up someone over the phone brings to mind an image of some hoodlum in a backroom taking advantage of suckers. I will call and take a chance, anything to get rid of that embarassment, Carson.

Then call in a pledge and follow it with mailing a check.

Thank you for your input. While some, myself included, have gone wobbly at times you've been steadfast in your predictions. Good news like yours can help to energize folks. Thanks.

Boy are you right. Ms Carson should talk, I believe one of her family members is in the pokey for pouring lye or something down some Mexican peoples throats. She has no knowledge or grasp of issues and refuse to speak about issues for that reason. She rarely is there and votes yeah for Dems as she is told to do. This woman does not deserve re election and I hope she gags on those mashed taters that always seem to be in her mouth.
