CHICAGO -- The Veterans of Foreign Wars' political action committee Friday endorsed a Republican congressional candidate with no military experience over a Democrat who lost her legs in combat in Iraq.
The endorsement of GOP state Sen. Peter Roskam over Tammy Duckworth angered some Illinois veterans, as well as national figures such as former Sen. Bob Kerrey, a veteran who lost a leg in Vietnam.
"They should be ashamed of themselves," he said. "They have some explaining to do to their members."
Duckworth is a former Black Hawk helicopter pilot with the Army who lost her legs when her aircraft was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade

It's Duckworth who has some splainin to do. She trashed the President and by extension her fellow troops. Said we ought not be in this war, that the money should have been spent on health care and education.
Getting wounded does not give you dispensation from the FACTS.

Service should be honored but should never, ever be a guaranty of an endorsement....hell, how many criminals were veterans? Should we send them all to elected office too?

Okay...this is the "vet card"...right??
If she wants to come home and join the party of cut and run, which would effectively make the loss of her legs for NOTHING...she shouldn't expect the rest of the vets to back her..

Sen. Bob Kerrey, a veteran who lost a leg in Vietnam. "They should be ashamed of themselves," he said. "They have some explaining to do to their members." So according to Senator Bob a veteran should be endorsed even if they are running as a sheeple cut and run Democrat.
Bob did you vote for George 41, did you vote for Bob Dole?

The VFW has an obligation to it's members to support the candidate who is most likely to share their values and to represent and protect their interest. I strongly suspect that the endorsement was predicated on a careful examination of these matters.

We have the same problem in Minnesota.
Her name is Patty Wetterling. She's a Dem running for Congress.
About 15 years ago, her son was kidnapped in a stranger abduction. He's never been seen from since.
For some reason, people up here believe that it's not proper to question her on natl security issues or Social Security - simply because she lost her son in a tragic kidnapping.

To: cdga5for4
Olbermann said that no one could criticize Duckworth about anything because she lost her legs in the war. He was serious.Of course he was serious. Dishonesty is his stock and trade.
Brash and tactless as she is, Ann Coulter is proved right again -- the left props up tragic spokespeople and absolves them from any responsibility to be honest and truthful because of the pains they have suffered. Max Cleland, The Jersey Girls, Cindy Sheehan, Michael J. Fox, et al -- no one has the right to do anything but say, "Of course you're right, you're a victim of (fill in the blank). How could you be wrong?"

So, the VFW should endorse a veteran, regardless of the fact that she is actively undermining the troops she used to fight with?

My very short tenure with both the VFW and American Legion taught me that they both are comprise of beer-gut prone inveterate bar stool occupants who know every condemnatory fact regarding politics, foreign policy and how to run the U.S. government. That, along with skewed memories of the past and not at all reluctant to tell the world how they alone saved a battle, captured a battalion of enemy, won the war (at least one that we really won) while slugging down beers and peanuts, yet, they contribute nothing of worth to the social structure or contemporary debate. Each month my mail contains entreaties to re-join to save the nation while implying in not too subtle terms that there must be something sinister about my not wanting to be among that bunch of dead weights.
Instead, it has been rewarding to serve the USO at a nearby airport to welcome and chat with young kids and mid-level officers who stop in to await their flight and contribute dollars to an organization with real life rather than the smell of stale beer and feigned bravado.

What I see is the old strategy of dragging out a 'victim', using them as a shield, using them for sympathy votes, etc. is now a failed strategy.
It's been exposed and thank you Ann Coulter, Rush, etc.
We've been Cindy Sheehanned out, we've been Duckworthed out, we've been Michael Foxed out, and they've been found out.
The Dems think that no one should go to war. It's a great way to think, it's an idyllic way to think. And it means that you can't lead. And people see it.
