Karl Rove, a Cancer on American Politics? [Columnist Tom Friedman..........]

Karl Rove, a Cancer on American Politics? "Everyone says that Karl Rove is a genius. Yeah, right. So are cigarette companies. They get you to buy cigarettes even though we know they cause cancer. That is the kind of genius Karl Rove is."

Columnist Tom Friedman really wants the Republicans to suffer next Tuesday, judging by his Friday column (Times Select required) "Insulting Our Troops, and Out Intelligence."

"George Bush, Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld think you’re stupid. Yes, they do.

"They think they can take a mangled quip about President Bush and Iraq by John Kerry -- a man who is not even running for office but who, unlike Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney, never ran away from combat service -- and get you to vote against all Democrats in this election.

"Every time you hear Mr. Bush or Mr. Cheney lash out against Mr. Kerry, I hope you will say to yourself, 'They must think I’m stupid.' Because they surely do."

And apparently, Karl Rove causes cancer.

"Everyone says that Karl Rove is a genius. Yeah, right. So are cigarette companies. They get you to buy cigarettes even though we know they cause cancer. That is the kind of genius Karl Rove is. He is not a man who has designed a strategy to reunite our country around an agenda of renewal for the 21st century -- to bring out the best in us. His 'genius' is taking some irrelevant aside by John Kerry and twisting it to bring out the worst in us, so you will ignore the mess that the Bush team has visited on this country.

"And Karl Rove has succeeded at that in the past because he was sure that he could sell just enough Bush cigarettes, even though people knew they caused cancer. Please, please, for our country’s health, prove him wrong this time."

I was thinking of Friedman as more along the lines of a pimple on the buttocks of the body politic, but the final result is the same.

Wow. Unlike the other inhabitants of the OpEd page, Friedman usually pretends to be reasonable. Not that he is, but he pretends to be.

Looks like he's really lost it.

Hey, Friedman, What happened to all those nice, reasonable Arabs you predicted would be joining the modern, civilized world, in The Lexus and the Olive Tree?

Do you see any signs of New York Times type civilization spreading through the Middle East yet? Maybe signs of the Upper East Side in Lebanon? Or Westchester in Egypt? Are the Saudis becoming pleasant and rational to their Christian and Jewish guests?

Sounds like the Drive Bys are in full panic mode

That must be true. Friedman must be scared that the Republicans are going to hold both houses. Otherwise he would be saying things like "Rove to go down in defeat",. or "The public will finally find out that Rove does not have a magic hand."

This smells to me like Friedman thinks the Democrats are going to lose and wants to put the blame on Rove for using the statement made by Kerry to take the Democrats down.

I don't think that what Kerry says will have a huge influence on the election outcome. But if the Democrats lose they certainly would like to make everyone believe Kerry is the reason.

What does that make Howie "Republicans are Evil" Dean?

The last time I checked, the Democrats were the party that wanted to keep ripping babies apart with forceps legal, and then use federal money to harvest their cells in freakish scientific experiments.

In other words, they worship Satan. Dr. Dean is a practitioner of the Black Mass.

Regards, Ivan

Wow... at least Friedman used to be somewhat of a coherent writer. The cigarette analogy is weak at best.

John Gibson has been joking for months, that he would be very RICH if he wrote a book called, "George Bush eats babies"....

Because he knows the libs and MSM would BELIEVE it!!

I dare say that you could insert Rove or Cheney's name...

Kerry was so anxious to "run away" from Vietnam that he manufactured 3 bandaid "wounds" for purple hearts.
