The Skinny On Those Political “Military Magazines” Calling For Rumsfeld's Resignation
Stop The ACLU ^ | 4-Nov-06 | Oak Leaf

Posted on 11/04/2006 1:22:35 PM PST by Jay777

UPI Headline, and many other publications.."Military mags to call for Rumsfeld.

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Four publications of the Military Times Media Group plan to call on U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to resign, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times and Marine Corps Times will issue the call in an editorial scheduled to run Monday, the newspaper said.

The Chronicle published the text of the editorial on its Web site Friday.

The editorial says the truth about the war in Iraq "been difficult to come by from leaders in Washington." Instead, the editorial says President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Rumsfeld have issued "one rosy reassurance after another."

The editorial notes that Bush recently said Rumsfeld would keep his job for the remainder of Bush's term in office.

"This is a mistake," the editorial says. "Rumsfeld has lost credibility with the uniformed leadership, with the troops, with Congress and with the public at large."

First, the article implies that four different "military magazines" are calling for Rumsfeld to resign. That is FALSE. These are the same publication except they are "wrapped up" Army Times, Air Force Times, Marine Corps Times, Navy Times.

These are not "professional military publications." Examples of military professional publications are "Proceedings of the Naval Institute" and "The Officer" by the Reserve Officers Association.

The Army Times used to have wide circulations. They are now part of the Gannett Group (USAToday) and the writers for these four "military papers" also work at USAToday!

This is quite misleading since it isn't really the military asking for his resignation at all, but that doesn't stop Fox and others from running with the story today. But...what real affect will this have on voters? Since that is their obvious goal.

Pass it on--this editorial view is very misleading and does not represent the conservative, majority military point of view.

These "Military Times" mags are also screaming socialists from what I recall of seeing some of their past articles posted. They are far from even the usual biased standards of the MSM..... yes, the attempt is to make it seem like all the major "military" publications are calling for Rumsfeld's head, when in fact these are really, as you note, ONE civilian publication, owned by Gannet.... and (as I note) dominated by raving leftists. In reality, this is about as significant as Charlie Rangel making the same statement, but the MSM is trying to milk it.....

Actually heard that it was a Gannett publication just one time early early this morning. Just once and now the rest of the media whores are conveniently leaving that part out.

As for the mal-cons. To hell with them.

I've even advertised in the Army Times.
Never again, but I guess, according to Jon Cary, I'm to stupid to understand their enlightened articles anyway.

Yeah sure. So the socialist, seditious weasles drop one final bomb over the weekend so that no radio talk shows are around to debunk it (Limbaugh, Hannity, Boortz).

So with all the networks / newspapers playing this up, it'll be entrenched in people's minds before Monday.

Ug, horrible formatting on that blog. Each line is about one word long, making it tedious to read. Nevertheless, I suspect I share their sentiments. The various Times papers are no longer the papers they once were--we haven't subscribed for decades now. This editorial was despicable, and despite their claims that they didn't want to influence the elections--they sure did put the editorial out just one day before the election. Scum. Pure scum.

It is disingenious of the media to treat this paper like it is an arm of the military. Here's an example of their work:

"Sex slaves and the U.S. military " At a time when the U.S. State Department and the United Nations labor to combat the international trafficking in women, the U.S. military supports a flourishing trade in sex slaves in South Korea.

This was their intent, I believe. However, I'm sure the paper doesn't have the clout it once did. What will be difficult for the good guys is that newsies will tout this as "proof" that the military no longer supports the war.

I am starting to really dislike FauxNews immensely. Day in and day out Faux or Fox is trying to sway the elections and that is the reason why I stopped watching all the other Commie stations.

Now on Monday, we'll hear the real story From Rush. It is really pathetic what the Commie media are trying to do.

Liberal editors can write what they will, but they will never get the troops with their butt on the line to mistrust the faith they have in the judgment of President Bush.

I can't think of a President that cares more about the men and women in uniform in recent history.

Liberals may hate it, but the military loves President bush.

I read my last "Navy Times" the week before my retirement. When I spoke to Sailors, one would always preface a question with, "The Navy Times says. . ." My response always began with this question; "Is the Navy Time in business to inform Sailors or sell newspapers?"

I wouldn't wrap fish in the Navy Times!

"These are not "professional military publications."

"They are now part of the Gannett Group (USAToday) and the writers for these four "military papers" also work at USAToday!"

The media are reporting the story as if the military were demanding Rummy go - they do not do their homework = are they dupes?

We need to email them all QUICK and inclde those two lines - we need to get this reversed NOW. WE have the power. Let's use it.

"Let's Roll"

Let's remind remind all the media to cover it - Once it hits one outlet big - it will spread like wildfire because the media outlets get frantic once a story has broken and will run over each other to air it too .

...(I'm retired from the newspaper business - this is my bailiwick and I am so thankful for the net and FR - for giving us the greatest tools of information dissemination any society ever had - For the first time in history, they can't shut us down...Let's USE IT)

(Copy/paste list to your files for quick find in future)

Media emails – the formula: if they hear from 40 to 45 people on a story, they will cover it.
CAUTION: do not mass email - they won’t look at it – email singly- also : Short and sweet or they wont look at it! Include a link, if you have one.

I have a subscription to Navy Times. They have been getting more liberal as time goes on and apparently they just pecked their way out of the egg. They always have a political cartoon that is anti-war or anti-government.

This makes it easy for me to cancel, not just not renew my subscription. Screw them. I didn't want political advice from these clowns. I don't know that any of them actually served so STFU.

What effect will this have on the morale of any troops and their families who may read this disgusting liberal propaganda and believe that it is a position santioned by the military?. I think the Pentagon should release a memorandum to all company commanders ASAP which instructs them to inform their troops that the United States military disavows any connection whatsoever with these sneaky rags.

That's everyone in the United States to those paying attention. Later, an ABC newsreader quoted 30 million members for the same story. Lots of hyperbole today.

"This is a mistake," the editorial says. "Rumsfeld has lost credibility with the uniformed leadership, with the troops, with Congress and with the public at large."

Even if that were true, it wouldn't matter much. We have civilian control of the military, something the leftists normally scream from the rooftops. Rusmfeld is the appointee of the President, also a civilian, who was elected by the people, through the electoral college, to be the Commander in Chief. The military, General to buck private, can either salute and say "yes sir", or they can resign. (Well when their enlistment or obligated service is up).

That said, I'm not necessarily enamored of Rummie either. But that's only because he has too often filled the role of designated hatchet man when weapons, and manpower, were cut. I wasn't happy with the cancellation of the Comanche helicopter, nor of the Crusader SP artillery. I wasn't happy when 1/3 of the B-1s where sent to the bone yard either, nor with the recent announcement that the F-117s are scheduled for retirement, well before their real replacement, the JSF/F-35, comes on line. (The announcements talk about the F-22, but it can't carry as bombs as large as those the F-117 can carry, and is really a fighter, not an attack aircraft). Given the realities of the FY07 budget, I expect that FCS (Future Combat System, which is the future of the Army) will take some hits as well. Meanwhile the equipment we have is wearing out, especially Army and Marine ground vehicles.

All this to feed the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. That war needs fighting, but not all our enemies consist of illiterate ragheads with IEDs, RPGs, and small arms. The Iranians have more, as do the North Koreans. .... Then there are the Red Chinese and resurgent Russians.
