A defiant Saddam Hussein shrugged off a possible death sentence, saying he would die without fear and the US occupiers of his country would leave humiliated like they did in Vietnam, his lawyers said on Saturday.

They said a jovial and highly spirited Saddam chatted with them for more than three hours about the violence in Iraq and mounting US losses just hours before an expected death sentence on Sunday in his trial for crimes against humanity.

I remember this movie with James Cagney as a hard-boiled criminal who's set to die on the electric chair. He shows no fear until he sees the chair, then he freaks out. A priest who tried to get him to change witnesses him as he screams over and over "I don't wanna die!"

Later, a group of teen gang members ask the priest, "So, did he turn chicken at the end?"

I said all that to say this:

I can imagine the guards who will hang Saddam sitting with grandchildren on their knees in the future, retelling the story of how "that pig Saddam cried like a baby when he realized his end had come".

If there were any true justice in this case we would see King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia hanging right next to him. Which one do you think is more responsible for 9/11? Osama and Saddam are just the players...The al-Saud Royal Family is the Game.

By March, April of 2003, all American troops were withdrawn from Saudi Arabia. A retreat...however you look at it.

There are some facts that many have chosen to overlook. One of them being that Saddam was a staunch ally of ours all through Reagans tenure as President and before. He fought a proxy war for us against Islamic Iran though he did so in an incompetent manner. Reagan distanced the U.S, from him after he used poisen gas in combat against the "human wave" tactics of the Iranian enemy. Then he used it to put down a Kurd uprising. We all saw the pictures. He was, is a brutal man. But how do you maintain power and control in a country with three different factions...each with plans to exterminate the other two and you, while you wage a war with Iran at the same time. I don't know...and it seems that our efforts to bring coheisiveness to Iraq are not all that effective to date, to say the least.

Saddam has become a kind of Goldstein character to many Americans. I know a lot of people hate him but I know at one time the United States considered a brutal secular dictator to be preferable to an Iranian type goverment of Islamic Mullahs. And now sharia law is ingrained into the Iraqi Constitution. Someone tell me what we have gained.

He had it right. I don't care whether he fears death or not. I certainly don't and that's an honest fact. However, my intention is to see that those who oppose me die for the privilege.

One statement stood out for me late last night. A reporter said that Saddam had said something about God and the reporter added this, "he did not care about God until this moment". I thought that was a telling remark. That may not be word for word but close.

Maybe you're right. If the Rats win they can run him for a Senate seat in Mass. He'd probably win hands down, after all he would have plenty of clowns like you to vote for him. Perhaps Pol Pot,Stalin,and Hitler were not so bad after all, perhaps they just had the wrong friends encouraging them. Better yet lets turn him loose and put him back in charge so he can kill another couple of hundred thousand people just to prove how evil the US is. That will show em.
