Lugar, Sanders declared early Senate winners
WASHINGTON No surprises in early results of Election 2006 as the GOP kept its Senate seat in Indiana, and Vermont passed from one Independent to another.
Indiana Republican Sen. Richard Lugar was declared an easy winner in Indiana, and Rep. Bernie Sanders captured a Senate seat in Vermont.
Lugar, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, cruised to victory for a sixth straight term without a Democratic foe. Sanders defeated Republican Richard Tarrant in the contest to succeed retiring Sen. James Jeffords, also an independent.

Shouldn't that read VT stays "Socialist"?
[Polls are closed in Indiana already? Is this because of DLS time?]
We are on ET, and yes DST too. But polls were kept open in many areas till 8:00PM because Deleware County's volunteers couldn't turn the machines on at 6:00AM. That whole technology and electronic thing with retired volunteers and all....
That would be too "judgmental."
[What house seats are in play in Indiana?]
The two close ones are IN-07 with (D) Julia Carson incumbent and IN-?? with (R) Mike Sodrel incumbent. Sodrel barely won in the last election and Carson is in her 3rd term. She is rated the most liberal politician in Indiana, even ahead of Evan Bayh.
Lugar did not even have a Democrat run against him
With all the toothy grins I'm seeing on FNC, I guess tonight is going to go down in history as the day the Americans sold out their own military and the people of Iraq.
Hostettler's seat is definitely at risk
Did anyone post a Brit Hume election coverage thread?
It would probably be the most accurate of any.
See BS just called Ohio and PA for the Dems in the Senate races. With all the PA troubles in voting...wonder how they're predicting that state.
Lugar did not have an opponent.
As bad as Jeffords was, Sanders is an out and out Socialist.
The anti-American Communist is elected to office by the anti-Americans in Vermont. I will NEVER buy anything from that state again. Give them to Canada.

There are 12 Dem candidates out there around the country who last ran for office as Republicans. They are all predicted to win.
The big mystery to me is why the folks who don't like all the Mexicans moving in to take jobs are voting for Democrats. Did the fact that the Democrats want to bring in even more Mexicans escape their attention or what?
This is nuts.

We lost two main Republicans in house seats. Indiana didn't keep anything but a RINO.
