Lugar, Sanders declared early Senate winners
WASHINGTON No surprises in early results of Election 2006 as the GOP kept its Senate seat in Indiana, and Vermont passed from one Independent to another.
Indiana Republican Sen. Richard Lugar was declared an easy winner in Indiana, and Rep. Bernie Sanders captured a Senate seat in Vermont.
Lugar, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, cruised to victory for a sixth straight term without a Democratic foe. Sanders defeated Republican Richard Tarrant in the contest to succeed retiring Sen. James Jeffords, also an independent.

Let's hope Lugar's strength carried over into several districts, including IN-07.
I don't think Lugar was ever in question. We need the three congressional seats in IN to clear.
Way to Go Lugar....yeah baby!
"The Commie wins in VT, but Lugar is safe."
This is an ACTUAL post from DU:
Our first socialist Senator!
"Great to see Bernie Sanders win. Gets me kinda choked up. He says he will caucus with the Dem's, so in essence, he is with the Dems no matter what happens. Socialism on the rise babeee..lol "
I am speechless.
Ditto!
I thought Sanders officially declared himself a Socialist last month. There is nothing "independent" about Socialists.
LOL!
Bump for Lugar!
One thing about Lugar....he keeps a stiff upper lip
Polls are closed in Indiana already? Is this because of DLS time?
Any numbers on Ranvile? (SP?)
Must have been a healthy margin if Indiana was called already.
glad you liked it--quickly found pix of him and the
hammer-and-sickle on yahoo photos and added text to
the composite via Microsoft Picture It. The "ad" of
course spoofs "Borat"
Lugar was unopposed by the Dems.
Headline should read: "Senate Winners At This Time: 50% Republican / 50% Socialist"
[Let's hope Lugar's strength carried over into several districts, including IN-07.]
I voted at about 8:00AM in IN-07 on the southern most side of the district (the most conservative side). It was a packed house and I have high hopes for Dickerson to unseat the old, slow, decrepid .....never mind.
I voted against Julia Carson. My wife voted against her. I also pressured 3 others in the same district that otherwise wouldn't have voted to go to the polls. I can only hope they voted Republican.
