How pathetic that incumbent Allen and a former Governor no less...can't win against ANYONE by 10 points in a race like this.

Allen drained RNC resources and he still loses

Is 2,200 votes a lot to overcome in a recount? I was too young to remember or care about the 2000 elections.

if allen was ahead there would be 50 recounts and they would be counting bodily fluids on the ballots but since we are down we stay down and its the will of the people

Trashing Webb's novel pushed him over. I said it on FR when it happened that it would back fire on Allen and got slammed for it. Next poll showed the flip to Webb.

It kills me. Allen is a true Reagan conservative. I wish he'd pulled it out.

from the VA Election Code:

"D. Absentee ballots may be processed as required by § 24.2-711 by the officers of election at the central absentee voter precinct prior to the closing of the polls but the ballot container shall not be opened and the counting of ballots shall not begin prior to that time. In the case of punch card or mark sense ballots to be inserted in electronic counting equipment, the ballot container may be opened and the absentee ballots may be inserted in the counting equipment prior to the closing of the polls in accordance with procedures prescribed by the State Board, including procedures to preserve ballot secrecy, but no ballot count totals shall be initiated prior to that time.

As soon as the polls are closed in the county or city the officers of election at the central absentee voter precinct shall proceed to ascertain and record the vote given by absentee ballot and report the results in the manner provided for counting and reporting ballots generally in Article 4 (§ 24.2-643 et seq.) of Chapter 6 of this title. "

If this holds up, Allen has two years to rest, heal, regroup, and prepare to win the Republican nomination for President in '08. After all, who else is there? Or should the conservative Republican (used to be) base just vote for Hillary and hasten the inevitable destruction of the old order?

The GOP in Virginia is broken. Both Allen this year and Kilgore last year had the worst campaigns. I thought it was a fluke with Kilgore (and a weak candidate) but this makes me think there's bigger issues.
