"A popular Government, without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance: And a people who mean to be their own Governors, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives." -- James Madison to W. T. Barry August 4, 1822
How well your above quote meshes with my claim.

How well your above quote meshes with my claim. Yes. but I must shamefully admit my ignorance because I don't know where you're quote came from.
Read enough of the essays and treatise from the Founder's era, though, and the style is instantly recognizable.

"I don't know where you're quote came from." That's my claim, should I ever need it. I composed it.

That's my claim, should I ever need it. I composed it. LOL!
Now I do feel foolish.

It's wonderful to know, however, that the intent of the Founders is still well understood.

This could be fun seeing how Pelosi and Schumer et al are going to handle all of these centrists coming to Washington. Will they make them toe the line? I get the feeling Pelosi might get a lot more heat from her own side than she'll get from the GOP side of the aisle.

Hide the better firearms and keep a few out to relinquish to the cops With all due respect, if it's time to bury the firearms, it's time to USE the firearms.
Surrending the 'cheap' guns will only put you at the government's mercy at that time; if they are willing to steal your guns under color of law, they will be perfectly willing to take your life under color of law.

Bush said he would sign an extension of the AWB if congress sent one to him. Maybe now they will. If Bush signs one he will singlehandedly cost the GOP every election for the next 8 years.

I don't think that they're THAT dumb. They remember 1994. The NRA had more to do with 1994 than the "Contract with America". They are certainly that dumb.

I'm not stupid enough to try to out-gun half a dozen professionals armed with automatic weapons.

I'm not stupid enough to try to out-gun half a dozen professionals armed with automatic weapons." Nor am I. If anyone has to go to court over this issue and the court chooses to ignore the law, it will create a state of anarchy -- the formal and public admission that we are henceforth a lawless nation. I surmise there would be a few who would not take that too lightly.
I also suppose a few good men would dust off the old Plan B and make things right in short order. No need for a long, drawn out battle this time around.
SCOTUS has been side-stepping the issue for good reason. But how long can it do the Fandango before it must take care of the People's business?

Whether they do anything or merely continue to dance is quite inconsequential.
The express right to KBA is in the Constitutional compact.
Neither the affirmation or outright rejection by SCOTUS can change it.

That's true, MT. That is the view of the People who have no problem understanding the Amendment. But a SCOTUS opinion would keep the pro-active jackboot tyrants in their cages. It would be for their edification -- not ours.
It would be opportune if one of the New Orleans victims would pursue a claim. I've not been following their progress, so perhaps one is in the works down there.
To: TheBattman
So you are planning to take a stand when the authorities come-a-knockin? Are we going to have to add your name to the martyrs for the 2nd amendment? I would have believed Americans had the guts, but yesterday's election has raised serious doubts. I know a lot of people who talk a big talk, but I'm not so sure most of them are willing to "walk-the-walk".
No one will "walk the walk". If it didn't happen in New Orleans, it won't happen. The talk is just false bravado.
There are isolated instances where small groups have "walked the walk" and mostly died, especially the women and children.

This is the time the GOP is going for rebuilding, these next two years. During this time they will be put to the test by the Dems.

"Since our right to self defense is inalienable and our right to keep and bear arms is enumerated in the Constitution, no bill, ordinance, code or act can change it."...and all these years I was worried for nothin'. I'm sure the fed goons will understand this and agree if and when I let know this.
