"Yesterday, half of America decided that our troops fighting terrorism can go to hell."

In their minds, they voted to be kind to the troops by bringing them home early. And when the world continues to slide into hell, it'll be everybody else's fault but theirs, of course.

We have to listen to the people and the people are choosing McCain, Romeny and Giuliani and some others on the list. If we go against what the people WANT again we will lose.

Do the people really WANT those guys, or are those guys the only ones they hear about in the left-wing media? If we do find some good guys, we need a way to get their names before the public.

Democrats won because there is a severe shortage of gonads in the GOP. When the enemy fights you in the gutter, you have to climb in and fight them in their territory using the same tactics. Nice guys come in last as we saw yesterday. Until voter fraud and intimidation are prosecuted, the Dems will continue to cheat.

Let's start picking our collective brains to put forth good, young candidates, along with their pros & cons.

I don't know much about him but can anyone shed some light on TOM COBURN, MD?

Comments and other suggestions, please.

We had YEARS of relentless.....I'm not a republican I'm a conservative.

We had YEARS of showcasing every disagreement with the President saying he's not a real conservative.....endless carping about the President's every move.

We sowed a lot of discontent within our own ranks.

If the U.S. decides to get out of Iraq, how would we do it safely? Fly everybody out? Drive through Kuwait or Saudi Arabia? Move up into Iraqi Kurdistan? (then what?)

If we flew out wouldn't Iran provide the insurgents & Sadrites with shoulder fired ground to air missles? If we motored out wouldn't there be IEDs and snipers all along the way? Would Saudi Arabia let us cross their country? I guess Kuwait would. Have Murtha et al thought about this?

Good analysis. I'd like to add the following:

1) We can't rely on turnout alone. We have to do a far better job communicating conservative ideas to the public to grow our base and grab the independents.

2) Lots of RINOs lost last night.

3) Please welcome Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) to Congress. FReepers, you are going to love this lady.

4) From what I've heard, a lot of the incoming dems aren't nearly af far left as the current class.

So there are some silver linings. And the fight for '08 is now underway. Let's get to work and kick some ass!

"I am proud that the morning after here is not filled with suicidal threats, conspiracy wackos, Fraud allegations, alien abductions, etc."

Don't forget threats of leaving the country for good like so many liberals promised to do but never delivered on those promises.

Polls matter. They give a sense of the electorate. They are important when looking at close races and determining specifics in an election. Freepers who completely discounted them were completely shocked last night.

I tried to tell people this for the last six months and got nowhere. Look at it this way. The MSM has little credibility with us, but it would have no credibility with anyone if its polls were as phony as most people around here would say every time one came in looking bad.

I think you are reading more into the election results than I would. The election was a repudiation of the Iraq war. It's that simple. The voters hate the war, wish we never went, and are frustrated because it looks like there is no end in sight.

Ward Churchill was only one example of what is being taught in our colleges. Too many families didn't or couldn't find the time to make sure their children could withstand peer pressure.

You need only to look on some FR threads to see peer pressure at work. Anyone with a different opinion was run off the thread. NO dissention allowed here.

Bingo...
A lot of this was fueled by issue trolls, (Lew Dobbs, Michael Savage) but also people who don't understand that any forward momentum is still forward momentum, even if it isn't at the rate you want..

Now they could have backward momentum..

We want a balanced budget, we get record deficits. We want secure borders and a comprehensive immigration policy, we get an amnesty plan. We want the size of government reduced, we get rampant unchecked growth. We want school vouchers, we get [crickets chirping]. We want honorable leaders, we get Mark Foley and the Abrahamoff mess.

Agree with your post completely. They totally dropped the
ball here in my opinion and spent like drunken democrats. They also let the credit card companies write the bankruptcy reform rules instead of cracking down on them as to the way they extend credit to anyone with a library card.

Well said. And to answer your last question: If they don't, they are doomed as a viable force in this country.

Nicely said! All good points, particularly about the squishy middle being the swing votes. They get to play Sandra Day O'Connor since there are about equal numbers who consistently vote for each of the two partisan sides.

We must also remember that, although the overall outcome is horrendous, on a case-by-case basis, we didn't lose by much. We can go back to the last two presidential races--we won, but not by much.

My point is that we don't have to start over. We are not a professional football team that went 0-16 and lost every game by 25 points. We're more like a team that made it to the playoffs but lost on a last-minute field goal. In the former case, one needs to rethink everything--coaches, players, philosophy. In the latter, a few small improvements can translate into great gains.

A big problem is constantly having to overcome an extremely biased media. Clinton twiddled his thumbs (among other things) for eight years, allowing terrorists to attack our citizens with impunity, and the media is ready to carve his face on Mt. Rushmore. Bush has retaliated firmly against our enemies and lowered taxes enough to trigger a very strong economy. The media wants him impeached for his efforts.

When the dems lose, their mantra is always that their message (whatever that is) didn't get out. In the republicans' loss, I believe that this was truly the case.

The pivotal American voter--the great unwashed independents--don't read National Review or The Nation. They get their news from the local paper--the AP and Reuters feeds, or perhaps the NY Times. They watch Katie Couric or Wolf Blitzer and consider the information they get to be sufficient to make a ballot choice. "Nearly 3,000 killed in Iraq." Wow--sounds bad! Throw the bums out! That the alternative may be far, far worse than the status quo is never really considered.

Some people won't get the message until a dirty nuke lights up Chicago or anthrax is sprayed over the Super Bowl. We have not had an attack on our shores since 9/11/01. George W. Bush is a modest man, and though he should take the bulk of the credit for that fact, he never really does. Ditto for the roaring economy!

But, we mustn't lose hope. Convincing about 1% of the voters in swing districts is all we need to do. The dems won't be able to cram too much down our throats--we still have the White House. With that at stake, as well as Congress, 2008 shapes up as perhaps the most important election in our history.

3- We are against cloning and there is only one George W. Bush. We need to identify and promote more faces of the party. Younger faces. President Bush is 60, Rudy Guiliani is 62, John McCain is 70. Where are the up and coming Republicans? Find them, promote them, and use them.

Of everything I have read thus far, this is by far THE MOST IMPORTANT point.

I agree. It was Iraq. And the Dems were smart enough to cover up who they really are by running "conservative" Dems where they needed to, so Pubbies felt free to send their anti-war message. If we overthink this we're going to miss the point. The electorate is still a little to the right of center, but they've had enough of the constant body counts and carnage on the evening news. In their minds, they did this for the troops. Bring'em home, keep 'em alive. They don't understand the deeper issues because they don't live and die by this stuff like we do.

Precisely. That needs to be said again and again.
