NATCHEZ An attempted armed robbery left one of the alleged robbers dead from a gunshot wound to the head Monday morning.
Clifton Lashon Jackson, 19, 1427 Watkins St., died at Natchez Regional at 12:10 p.m., about two hours after the incident.
Jackson and two other men allegedly entered Old South Pawn Shop on St. Catherine St., just before 10:30 a.m.
Two of the men had their faces covered. Jackson approached the store with a handgun in each hand, Police Chief Mike Mullins said.
They told them to get down and give them money, Mullins said. Witnesses advise (Jackson) fired at the employees from outside the store.
At that point a store clerk or another person in the store fired at Jackson. The bullet struck him in the front of the head.
Police received the call at 10:25 a.m. and arrived two minutes later, Mullins said.
A store employee was holding two suspects at gunpoint in the parking lot, Mullins said.
Officers took over the scene, arresting the two alleged robbers. Jackson was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
David Stiles Bradley, 17, 225 Spring Ridge St., Clinton, and LaJoshua White, 16, 1224 Watkins St., were charged with armed robbery.
Mullins would not release information about any of the guns used in the incident, or the name of Jacksons shooter.
The case will go before a grand jury in the coming months, but no charges have been filed against the person who shot and killed Jackson.
At this point it appears the subject fired in self defense, Mullins said.
The pawnshop is owned by Billie Pruitt and his family. The store closed after Mondays incident and Pruitt could not be reached for comment.
The case is still under investigation.
Witnesses on the scene said they didnt see the incident occur, but did see Jackson carried to the stretcher.
Arthur Jackson, who lives in the area, said he hated to see such a tragedy at Old South Pawn Shop.
The owners are very good people, he said. Even if they dont know you, you can go in there and ask them for a favor and theyll do it for you.
Bradley and White will be arraigned today.

Love that DSL don't cha?
he has had plenty of time on the range
I'm surprised their names were reported because they're under 18.
My hometown. Generally not too violent.
Billy Pruitt is not one to be trifled with. These kids know that now.
"Jackson and two other men allegedly entered Old South Pawn Shop on St. Catherine St., just before 10:30 a.m. --Police received the call at 10:25 a.m. and arrived two minutes later, Mullins said."
Not only a pretty good shot but apparently psychic as well.
Daaayyyum! Nobody'd better be bitchin' about him needin' more range time.
Missippy Good Shootin Ping.
Good stuff.
Can they be charged with felony murder?
Sniff, another happy ending.
I don't know MS law, but if it was TN the answer would be no. The murder has to be committed by one of the criminals against an innocent. TN is in the minority on this, so it is possible that MS allows for it for any death in commission of a felony.
Shot in the forehead and lived two more hours.
Either little bullet or a lotta dope.
I love a happy ending!
But seriously, I have no doubt that this will cause the clerk no end of grief. Either from the media, anti-gunners, families of the criminals, but in particular, from the fact that he was forced to take another life.
Mark
But....but...but he was a good boy who wouldn't even hurt a flea.....I can hear his Momma and his sisters wailing because the man done shot their little, sweet brother....it had to have been a racial incident....
LaJoshua...
"will cause the clerk no end of grief."
Maybe not in Nathez, MS. The owners are well liked, even by the minority community.
Need money, bring stuff. Need stuff, bring money!
Course I meant Natchez, not Nathez. Election got me down. Can't type....
Tragedy? What tragedy? It appears to me the incident turned out quite well given the circumstances.
It would have have been even closer to the most desirable outcome if there had been two deceased criminals on the parking lot pavement after the gunsmoke cleared instead of just the one, but all things considered this was one of the better outcomes in the recent history of pawn shop holdup attempts.
Should have shot the other two.
Or it didn't hit a vital organ and the perp bled out....
Aw, yer jist sore because you can't beat the ping anymore. ;-)
Nice shootin'!
Any death is a tragedy. In this either-or case, it was the right tragedy, that's all.
With the right music, that would make a great Rap Song!
Nice shooting, with a happy ending.
LOL! Honest, I was in the reply screen when the ping hit!
Yay!
While we still have the right to protect ourselves, rejoice.

>>But seriously, I have no doubt that this will cause the clerk no end of grief. Either from the media, anti-gunners, families of the criminals, but in particular, from the fact that he was forced to take another life.<<
Taking another life in defense of your own isn't at all traumatic. At least for me it wasn't.
You must have waited a while to post. It didn't come through until almost 3 minutes after the ping cleared leather.
It's different for everyone. I think most people are struck with the weight of responsibility after the taking of a life. And I think that is part of what makes us human. If nobody felt regret, I'd be alarmed.
Well as Wild Bill was supposed to say 'it's not how fast you shoot it's how well you aim" (and if he didn't say it he SHOULD have;))
Head on..apply directly to the forehead. (can't believe I'm the first with that!)
When someone is shooting at you, that is not the time to hesitate or think about possible remorse if you do shoot and kill your attacker.
If a bear was attacking you and you killed it, you would feel a sense of pride in successfully defending yourself.
Thankful for the training and the glad about hours of practice I had spent learning how to shoot at night. That was what I felt when I came out on top.
The dead POS was too busy dying to vote for the dems yesterday, but you can bet he'll vote rat party for a long time to come.
Actually, Mark, once a citizen has opted to get a firearm for protection, and has learned how to use it, the act of defence in using it and killing a criminal really only begets some regret.
It's a sacred, God-given right for a person to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their property from those who would attack them.
That right is so important, that it should be taught in our schools (I'll wait until we all stop laughing)... instead of the anti-gun garbage currently taught.
It goes back to the 'learning' part - knowing its' lethality, and being prepared to properly use it. It's really no different than a trained Soldier using his weapon................FRegards
PRICELESS!!!
