Hotline: Republicans Will Pressure Allen... Soon
Hotline/National Journal ^ | November 8, 2006

Posted on 11/08/2006 4:15:25 PM PST by RWR8189

Top Republicans in Washington will give Sen. George Allen a few days to take stock of his legal and political options before beginning to pressure him to concede to James Webb. Senior Republican officials and White House aides believe that Webb won the race. Several outside advisers to Allen want him to make the decision quickly; others in his campaign want to make sure that there's no chance a cache of new votes will turn up. One question: when will (will?) the AP call the race? [MARC AMBINDER]

The canvass in Virginia is supposed to be finished by the 14th (next Tuesday). The votes will be declared official by the Commonwealth on the fourth Monday of the month (the 27th), and it's after that point that Allen can request a recount.

I would guess that he'd concede if the canvass doesn't turn up any serious irregularities...7400 votes is a pretty big chunk to make up on a recount.

Outsiders interfering in the election in Virginia should be taken out and horsewhipped.

And that's just for starters.

Last thing I appreciate is a bunch of jerks in the White House telling me that I will have to get "constituent services" from a guy who writes cockbooks for a living.

Gad!

Can these people take their pro-pedophilic feelings and just leave.

What possible benefit would it be for the GOP for Allen to concede?

That is the THE biggest difference between dhimmicrats and the GOP. The dhimmicrats will FIGHT for what they believe in (as wrong and misguided and ridiculous it may be), while the GOP caves at the slightest little whimper from the WaPO and NYSlimes.

He should hang tough. There are probably thousands of absentee military ballots remaining that need counting. Concedeing means nothing. Only when the election is certified in a few weeks will it mean anything. Caving into liberals is what cost them control, and now they are doing it again.

Doesn't Virginia law require an automatic re-count if the winning margin is less than 1%? That would seem to be the case here, unless the canvassing is the legally required 'recount'.

Are these the same top Republicans that just delivered the House, Senate and a number of State houses to the Dems?

Yeah, I'm sure Allen is waiting for their advice.

Shut the hell up folks. Allen and his home state can handle this, thank you very much.

Who is going to remember or care if Allen takes another week or two to get a recount or whatever? What wussies republicans are. I guarantee democrats are lying to other republicans telling them things would "go smoother" if Allen concedes. So hey why bother to see if we can keep control of the Senate.

Wonder who at the WH is putting pressure on as I didn't see GW throwing in the towel in FL the next morning!

I am sick and tired of kumbyya. If we had stood up against fraud in 2000, 2002, and 2004 and actually did something about it, we wouldn't still be at this point. Motor voter should have been overturned, and proof of citizenship required to register along with proof of who you are to vote!

Shame on me I don't want illegals voting and affecting our elections but it doesn't seem to bother some of the so-called anonymous voices.

I'm not 100% sure, I've heard multiple versions. The one I've heard the most seems to be that the losing candidate has to request the recount, but if the margin is less than .5%, the Commonwealth and/or the localities pick up the tab. There was an Attorney General race here decided by 400 votes on a recount, but I didn't vote in it and wasn't keeping up with things here at the time (might've been before I moved up here).

I just can't see Webb losing and Allen gaining 3700 votes each to close that gap. But maybe the military ballots are still out, I don't know. The absentees aren't, those are pretty much counted, but I don't know if the military are lumped in there or not.

The vote margin is now 4000, not 7400. MSNBC just reported this. The canvassing board already found 1900 votes that were "misapplied" to Webb and now went to Allen. This "mistake" was found in just 12 hours after the election. More time will yield more fraud by dems.

Please explain what benefit there is to Allen conceding post haste. What is the hurry? We're about 20 hours past the election and all of a sudden Allen must step down.

Nah, that's just silly talk. He has a right to challenge, and as long as he does it in a reasoned manner, that's his right.

You really don't understand who these Democrats are do you, or what Webb is.

Guy is one step short of the armbands and goosestepping, and I've been warning folks that's what Demo politics in Virginia have been moving toward. There's still a current of Ku Klux Klan attitudes here and candidates like Mark Warner and Jim Webb appeal to them.

I don't appreciate having Republicans assist these people in stealing the election. Best if you go hide somewhere until this is over.

Nope. We don't. We just give in, time and time again, rather than simply get what needs to be done done.

I doubt that Allen has the votes, I'm pretty sure that his advisers know this, and if we had leadership, they'd be on the phone making a deal right now. Horse trading - we'll stop contesting lost causes if they allow up/down votes on nominations or some other concession. Instead, we'll wait, Allen will go away in a whimper, and we get nothing.

As for demands to share power - eh. What of it? Soreloserman tactics. It was our job to win, we lost, let them have a crack at it, and somewhere along the line, figure out how to actually get Bush to use his veto.

The only sane reason to apply any pressure for him to concede would either be for some vague high ground, which is utter nonsense; or, to insure that the democrats hold both houses of congress just prior to a major disaster.

So what might be about to happen?

1) War with Iran.
2) China's currency manipulation causes a massive international economic tsunami.
3) The collapse of the housing market precipitates a major economic downturn in the US.
4) Unknowns x, y, and z.
