Since the Senate is so close, WHY arent we insisting on sharing committee Chairmanships and and equal number of Majority/minority members like the Donks did in 2002?????
Do REPS have no SPINE????????????
Thank you for reminding me about that!
Like that brought any goodwill.
In 2002 the Republicans had 51 they had 48. Did the Republicans allow any sharing of commiteeships? What do you recall about how it eneded up?
Nope. We don't. We just give in, time and time again, rather than simply get what needs to be done done.
I doubt that Allen has the votes, I'm pretty sure that his advisers know this, and if we had leadership, they'd be on the phone making a deal right now. Horse trading - we'll stop contesting lost causes if they allow up/down votes on nominations or some other concession. Instead, we'll wait, Allen will go away in a whimper, and we get nothing.
As for demands to share power - eh. What of it? Soreloserman tactics. It was our job to win, we lost, let them have a crack at it, and somewhere along the line, figure out how to actually get Bush to use his veto.

You mean that Great Deal Trent Lott did with Tiny Tom Daschle?
BTW, Trent Lott is trying to make a comeback in the Senate as Whip.
Dontcha just love that brilliant idea?
Obviously not.
You answered your own question.
You have to ask?
After the last two years of doing so little with their majority position to try to repair 8 years of plunder and pillage done by the Clintons they couldn't convince me they have a spine if I saw them take it out and play with it. I thought Lott was a wuss, but then Frist came along and showed us what a real wuss acts like.
Today I tried to add up the beneficial legislation we got from allegedly controlling both the executive and legislative branches for the last two years. I don't pay nearly as much attention to that kind of thing as I should, and about all I could come up with was the confirmation of two originalist Justices, confirmation of a number of what I hope will prove to be conservative federal judges, IIRC a cut in the death tax but not sure of that, a law to protect the firearms industry from harassing lawsuits, which has already been ruled unconstitutional by a NY judge BTW, the sunsetting of Clinton's assault weapon ban, and a partial birth abortion ban that has also been ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge somewhere in the midwest.
As far as I know the PBA ban has not yet saved one full term baby from being stabbed in the head with scissors and then having his or her brain vacuumed out while he or she is in the final moments of entering a cruel world where innocent babies get their brains sucked out and their parents get to celebrate their liberation from the confining bonds of old fashioned concepts such as morality, compassion, and the sanctity of human life.
I'm sure there was more than that, but I can't think of what it might be. A little help from someone who keeps up with that kind of thing would be appreciated just to satisfy my curiosity.
Close doesn't count.
