As I recall from the movie Patton, the whole quote was in reference to General Rommel (the exalted "Desert Fox") and it went "...Rommel you magnificent bastard, I've read your book", meaning he knew before hand how Rommel would respond. The Dems have attempted to obstruct all progress in congress, have obstructed the war on terror since a few months after 9/11, and have successfully laid the blame for gridlock in DC on the Republicans. They have politicized everything and yet have succeeded in pointing the finger at Bush for polarizing the country. We failed to either read their book or respond with an effective campaign in opposition to their disingenuous yet effective tactics.
Only one problem with your well thought-out analysis: The Media wing of the democrat party--otherwise known as the Mainstream Media (or as I prefer: Democrat Media).
