Guestbook: Is Rush Limbaugh done with the GOP?
HamptonRoads.Com ^ | November 9 | Staff

Posted on 11/09/2006 9:20:34 AM PST by PghBaldy

During his radio show yesterday, conservative personality Rush Limbaugh announced that he felt "liberated" by Tuesday's election results and that he doesn't "have to carry the water for people that I think don't deserve to have their water carried." He said that while he was not going to "eat his own" or "throw my own overboard," he also acknowledged that it isn't his "job to make them succeed."

According to transcripts from the show available on Limbaugh's web site, rushlimbaugh.com, Limbaugh said it wasn't his job to make Republicans "look good if they can't do it themselves."

"All I'm saying is it's a little liberating now, once I see the direction we're headed and I look at the reaction to everybody in our movement after this loss. They can take it the way they want to take it, and I'm not going to defend whatever way they go just because they're on my side if I don't believe in the method they're using or the direction they're taking. It's that simple." (Read the transcripts)

Limbaugh's show is popular in the Hampton Roads area. It airs on WNIS 790 on weekday afternoons. Local radio shows were abuzz this morning as talk show hosts speculated on what exactly Limbaugh meant by his comments. Is he done with GOP? Is he angry with President Bush? What do you think he meant and what effect if any could his comments have on the Republican party?

Kind of funny. His talking about it just now made me look it up. I guess I'm not liberated, as he has this strange control over me :)

I bet that Rush stops supporting RINOs for the next two years.

He will bash Bush, Schwarzenegger, and those RINOs who said "If you support me, I will support you" then walked away from conservatives.

I think Rush will work more on what is right for Americans and Conservatives -- and certainly not be stumping for the Repubs per se.

He is as fed up with the useless Repubs as we are. Both parties are undesireable and represent a disfunctional Washington government.

any self thinking rationalist doesnt carry water for political parties - they base thier decisions on logic

carrying water denotes a slave / master relationship....which is exactly what weve seen -

at least hes honest about it

Rush isn't done with the GOP. He is done with so-called Republican leaders in Congress who tried to spend their way to reelection, refused to hold the President accountable for even his Administration's worst screw-ups, dither around on illegal aliens, failed to condemn or investigate leaks of our greatest secrets to the liberal media, sold out to sleazy lobbyists and thought they would not get caught, defended their own corrupt members - even those of the other party - and generally pissed away the Reagan revolution.

Don't read too much into it. Rush is probably just going to go back to supporting conservatives as opposed to Republicans. Those in the GOP who deserve priase and support will get it, those who don't will get criticism.

Frankly, it's the same game plan the rest of us ought to be taking. Start recruiting primary candidates now to get rid of the RINOs up in 2008. Start researching, vetting, and organizing potential presidential candidates. Take nothing for granted, and assume that you can affect the results... if you start now.

We're all done with the GOP as we know it today and unless they get back to their philosophy and fight back when attacked for being right then they will continue to lose support. We all put a happy face on during the elections but the truth of it is we all knew the GOP would lose seats we just didn't know how big of a lose and that shouldn't have been, we should have never been put in the situation of expecting to lose any seats.

It may be that Rush believed that Bush was a true conservative, and tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. I know I did. That veto pen will be of little use now, and unless he makes recess appointments (like Clinton) we are in trouble with the judiciary. I think Rush may be right here; and if Bush unloads Bolton we can be sure.

A good slogan. Now about a logo. How about a Rino in typical GOP Elephant colors (Red White and Blue) with a NOT sign over it (Red Circle with Slash)?

As sick as I'm sure we all are with elections, you don't win them by starting a week before the primaries. I mean, sure, take a couple of weeks, enjoy the holidays, and all, but unless we are willing to work at it very soon, we really have no right to b*tch about things later.

Republicans lost - but conservatism hasn't been rejected. Far from it.

Rush may be expressing some of the frustration many of us feel.

He's very insightful, thought-provoking and entertaining. I'm glad he's out there, and on our side!

We shall soon see.

Trent Lott is running for minority whip. Will Rush come out and support this proven loser, or will he demand new blood in leadership?
Time will tell if he has changed his water carrying ways.

I sure hope so. These two have set conservatism back in many ways. So many of you ranted on some of us for not drinking that (R) kool-aid. Now see the mess we are in. Don't ever nominate another "compassionate conservative". Don't ever nominate a person that says he is going to reach out to the left/commies. Elect somebody who says he is going to crush liberalism & puts it in action- period.

It's not my job to make the republicans succeed either. I stand for conservative principles, and THAT is what I'm going to push now. Remember 1993. We didn't support republicans, we supported a conservative agenda. We pushed things that worked, that resonated with the population, and in 1994 we had people elected to office.

Then too many of them became "republicans", worked to get re-elected, and became the problem.

He is expressing frustration and will support the GOP, just hold their feet to the fire so in 2008 we get a good conservative.

My feeling is Rush wanted to attack the GOP over some RINO policies, but "took one for the team" because he knew the importance of keeping the Dems out of power.

Now that the election is over, he is liberated to say whatever he wants.

All of us are liberated from protecting the rinos now. It is awful to lose power; it is a releif to be free of protecting the rinos in the hope of gaining another seat on the Supreme Court.

I would have rather we kept the Senate to be able to get another conservative on the court but that was not to be. There is no guarentee Bush would have appointed a conservative next time anyway. He can be a lose cannon as we witnessed in the last appointment mess.

I think it is pretty obvious. Rush is tired of fighting for people who won't defend themselves. He's telling the GOP to stop cowering in the Bushes and go out and fight for what you believe in.

We basically let the Dems/media define this election and hardly squeaked an objection (except Lynne Cheney). We need to call the Dems what they are, the media what they are and not back down from it.

Rush has said before that he'd rather have half an agenda carried out than no agenda carried out so he's not uncompromising in his political goals. But he believes in sticking up for what you believe in and he was tired of wasting his breath defending those who won't defend themselves.

Rush sounded like Michael Savage yesterday. Hilarious, after all the Weiner-haters have been defending Limbaugh and bashing Savage all year long. Turns out Mike was right and Rush admits it now, albeit far too late. Perhaps if he and others refused to carry the damn water a year ago we might still have the Congress.

My best guess is that Rush sees that the administration has drifted far from their original agenda...with several people advising the president toward a negative position. The inner circle may not be as grand as we'd all like to believe in. I have no doubt that Karl Rove is one of the best political play-masters in the business...but beyond that...he not be providing alot of other great advice. I see Condi in the same fashion...she was a person who could judge the best center-point and knew international affairs...but beyond that...she probably isn't broad in depth toward national issues. And as for legal advice...I don't think Bush has had four-star people around except for Ashcroft.

Rush may be gearing for a transformation effort...bringing Republicans beyond their currend agenda and looking at a different vision in 2008. If I were to select a national agenda...I'd pick the Teddy Roosevelt concept and preach it everyday. We haven't moved a single step toward fixing social security...everybody noticed this? With a Republican congress...senate...and president...not a single thing has improved over the past six years. I can show a dozen issues like this...where nothing got done. If we had some accomplishments on our plate...the Iraq business might have been better averaged out...but we didn't.

Rush might be right to review his topics, and challenge people to think differently.

Limbaugh said on yesterday's show that he was being bombarded by people complaining about his optimism. He also said that, as a result of these emails, he was going to go into the "depressed" mode and join those who have decided to give up the fight. He said he would not announce when he was shifting to the "depressed" mode and that he would just do it. LOL! I guess he shifted gears. There is a reason why Rush does EVERYTHING he does. You have to be able to recognize when he has started a new lesson and learn from what he is saying. If you are just listening and not thinking about what he is saying, you are not getting the lesson.
