Newt is a better choice. Offer it to him first, please.
To: Hazzardgate
Horrible news. Steele is a moderate, who attacked Bush and Rummy when the going got tough. This is exactly what we DONT need.

Steele has baggage - he's a loser. But you can expect the Drive Bys/MSM to name Republicans as coming with baggage.

I'm glad, Steele is one sharp man and we needed some good news.
To: Hazzardgate
Prepare for Steele to be rejected by large numbers of FReepers. He's not really conservative, or didn't run as one. Kiss of death. I'm just gleaning this reaction from what I read after the talk began about him replacing Mehlman. I didn't follow Steele's actual rhetoric and positions closely. All I know is he is African American and was running in the People's Republic of Maryland, a real tough sell for a conservative Republican.

You will not able to find a squeaky clean Republican. The liberals in the media will find a way to make him look repulsive. Live with it or fight back.

He did do that, didn't he? I was somewhat surprised when he bashed some of President Bush's policies. Never realized that he was that far left of me.

if we litmus tested out all the "RINOs", across all states, we would be down to 40 senators. in the meantime - the Dems beat conservatives like Allen, Talent, and Santorum.
To: Pukin Dog
steele is alot more assertive than his predecessor, who was timid and shy . Steele argues ideology, right vs left, which is good

I guess this is our sides turn to have our Obama lovefest?
Since when does "glib and sharp" translate into anything worthy of support? To me, it is almost racist to prop up either one of these guys when in reality, they haven't done a damn thing except be black and manage to turn a phrase.
Have we sunk this far?

Steele criticized Rumsfeld.
Bush got rid of Rumsfeld.
next criticism.
To: txrangerette
Let 'em pound sand! Steele is a conservative. Some of the stuff in the election was to distance him from issues that would otherwise make him poison in Maryland.
We are talking about a state, which after Tuesday, looks like Southern Massachusetts.

I am getting sick and tired of someone has to be 100% or nothing. I heard him in the debates and I thought he was very good. I am a long time supporter of the President since 1994 and I am not the least bit happy with some of his policies and statements either. Right away people on here want to reject him! Give the man a chance!

Im giddy at the thought. Steele could spell the end of the racist NAACCP. (National Association for the Advancement of Communist Colored People). He is brilliant, diplomatic, charming and conservative. I will pray every day that it is so. God is good. This recent loss just might bring out the best and the brightest of conservatives. No doubt the fight against the Marxist democrat party will be ferocious. It will be no easy task to battle the godless, bloodthirsty left.
