Oahu elects highest ranking transgendered person in U.S.

After an aggressive campaign, Kim Coco Iwamoto earned a seat on Hawaii's statewide Board of Education and, according to national advocacy groups, a place in history as the country's highest-elected transgender official.

Iwamoto, a 38-year-old lawyer, did not tout her gender status in the campaign but has openly advocated for transgender youth and related issues at the state capitol. She placed third in Tuesday's election among six candidates for three seats on the board.

She was not immediately available for comment. However, in a statement early Wednesday she said she was looking forward to "working in collaboration with the other members of the board to move education forward in our state." advertisement

Iwamoto, who was born on Kauai and attended a Honolulu Catholic boys school, also noted that she had won a special "Kids Voting Hawaii" virtual election for students on the Internet. Her biography on her Web site does not give her age or gender status.

The 14-member state board governs the islands' 285 public schools that enroll more than 180,000 students. Iwamoto was elected to a seat representing Oahu, Hawaii's most populous island. Two others, Karen Knudsen and Donna Ikeda, will also represent Oahu on the board.

"She would be the highest ranking openly transgender person elected in the country ... ever," said Denis Dison, vice president of communications for the Victory Fund, a Washington-based group that tracks and helps fund lesbian, gay and transgender candidates around the nation.

Previously elected transgender candidates in the U.S. were primarily limited to local seats such as city alderman or city council, Dison said.

Iwamoto, who is a member of the National Center for Transgender Equality, wasn't among the candidates the group endorsed this year. She has a law degree from the University of New Mexico, and was featured in a handbook on transgender policy for her advocacy of special restroom facilities on the school campus after she was harassed for using the women's bathroom.

Here`s a good story; I drive a taxi in New York city, sometimes in the day sometimes night. One night last month, I think it was a Friday night, the drunks were coming out of the bars around 3-4am, and that`s when you also get the hookers coming out to meet them, take advantage of them.

So I`m at this stoplight at 9th avenue and 14th street and this middle aged business type guy and this gorgeous girl get in the back seat and he tells me to bring him to the Radison on Park ave. which is a pretty high brow hotel. So I start heading up there and this guy was all over this girl, I mean his face was right in her chest and his hands all over her, until suddenly I hear "ARGHHHH!"..not like a yell though, more like he was about to throw up.

So I immediately pulled over and yelled in the back "PLEASE if you are going to throw up, DO IT OUTSIDE" because one of the worst things that can ever happen when you drive a cab (besides being robbed) is someone throws up in the back seat. If that happens, you literally have to waste about 1-2 hours cleaning it, it ruins the whole night...You have to bribe the car wash to clean it, usually $15- $20 bucks, plus you lose 2 hours time making money, and time is definately money when driving a cab.

So I immediately pulled over. And you know what he does? He opens the door and runs away! He ran down the street like a bandit leaving this girl still sitting in the backseat, and I was like what the hell is going here? So I ask her what is going on, and she says "Oh he is not feeling well" but her voice was DEEP! And I realized what happened..This guy was making out with her and naturally he must have copped a feel "down there" and SUPRISE! He found a tree trunk instead of a bush! LOL!!!! I was laughing so much I told her don`t bother paying me and she/he got ticked off. Can you imagine? These trannys are crazy! They don`t even tell these guys beforehand! And he was French kissing her! BWA HA HA HA!!! Freggin` nuts, you can`t even tell!
