Actually Bush said in 2000 that he would veto McCain's bill.

That's funny. I remember Pres. Bush saying before he was elected that he would sign it if it came to his desk.

For me, the advances in the Supreme Court, the legislation against partial birth abortion, the decision to keep us out of Kyoto and the World Court, tax cuts, and the patriot act were all good reasons to vote FOR Repubs.

I agree w many of your fine thoughts, except this one:

"Yes, the media are biased. Anyone who doesn't know that by now has been reading stone tablets."

Even though the #s of viewers/subscriptions to ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, NY Slimes, WA Post, LA Slimes, etc. are down, there are many people out there that watch them religiously and believe every word they say. How many times have you heard "I read it in the paper" or "I heard it on the news"?? I have to let my aunt and uncle (seasoned citizens) know that what they read in the Seattle PI or heard on local news or CNN is not correct and set them straight on issues. I grew up, as I'm sure many did, in a family where my parents, grandparents, etc. watched the local news and read the local paper and believed it! I suspect that many of the older folks (and even some of the younger ones) still believe that the media is being truthful. I had a conversation w a bright, young colleague yesterday who proceeded to tell me she was a CNN junkie (I told her I watched FNC almost exclusively).

Unfortunately stories published in the NY Times or written by API, etc. make up the 'news' in a lot of local papers and the TV news reports on stories from the paper. How many times have you heard, this just coming over the wire from AP on FNC and other news shows/networks? The API spreads half-truths, slanted stories, etc and it's in most news outlets across the country.

All that said, the Pubbies MUST do a better job of getting their ideas out, speaking a united message, and calling the press on inaccuracies (I was glad that Tony Snow and the DOD finally started doing that). Hastert did nothing to help this, Frist wasn't that great, and Lindsey Graham, John Warner, and McLame spoke against the Admin as much as they spoke for it.

Pence is up for Minority Leader in the House - I think he'd be good and Shadegg is running for a leadership position (caucus chair, I believe). They and others who speak well, such as Jeff Sessions and John Cornyn, need to keep out in front of issues, define them for everyone and keep pounding the press when they lie. IMHO the President needs to do a much better job of using his bullypulpit. They say that the country is against the Pres - his poll numbers went up on Rasmussen about 5 points over the past few weeks when he was out and about speaking to the people.

Sorry for the long post, I got started and didn't stop - hadn't intended to write so much

and maybe excite conservative voters who sat out this election.

Well, conservatives are easily excited. Easily swayed by emotion.

For the media to be "monitored" is a really stupid idea.

In 25 years of looking at the national media, I have never seen a more one-sided, distorted, vicious presentation of news -- and non-news -- by the national media.
Well said ....
So , what are WE going to do about it ? We should have Republicans with balls who are willing to to do ANYTHING to counter attack the coming purge . The last 2 years we stood and let the Dems b*tch slap us all over the place and rarely lifted a hand to defend ourselves. We need representatives to go to media sources in person and protest . We need Representatives to literally walk right into NY Times editorial offices and shout them down . Make scenes , make noise . force the media to back themselves with facts, and educate this dumbed down public.

Don't worry my friend , they will burn Bush alive . The next 2 years will be a Bush burning media event . Our time and money will be wasted as the Islamics plot the next terror event for election 08.

"Then we failed to do anything with it. We spent the next four years apologizing for being what got us elected to begin with."

You nailed it completely. Which came first, the GOP abandoning conservatives or conservatives abandoning the GOP. Incidentally, I know not one conservative who sat out the election (not saying that weren't any).

There is (should be)only one party, IMO, that tolerates anyone in Congress as long as they have the right letter after their name. The Foley case would seem to prove me wrong on that score (and that was one of the nails in the coffin). And fiscal "responsibility", a GOP absolute, was another nail (absolutely indefensible). Bush"s inablitiy to locate his veto pen, did not help either.

"How many times have you heard:

"An ABC news poll shows..."
"NBC has learned from undisclosed sources..."
"CBS has discovered that some in Washington believe..."

That's all we've seen/heard for months. I never remember hearing about so many polls as we did the last several months on the Pres (they were, of course, always low). It seems there were daily polls being released, while, I certainly don't remember hearing anywhere near that number of them on Bubba. I think a lot of uninformed people may have thought I think the Pres is doing a good/decent job, but I must be wrong because so many others don't.

I think if the media can't print the source, they they shouldn't be able to use the quote or the article. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the so-called 'unamed or annonymous sources' are their colleagues or Dims.

"Yesterday Rush Limbaugh was talking about the tape the MSM ran after his comments on M.J. Fox, looping his hand motions over and over. He then played a tape of some news person admitting that they had done it..."

Why that "news person" was our ol' Liberal-Socialist quisling*friend*, Joe Scarborough,
And if I misspelled the last name, *good*.

...and that when it was called to their attention, they realized they were doing it, and stopped...Unbelievable, that they would think we're that clueless."

Well someone is, the election proved that much.

...don'tcha think?

My friend works in Hunter College in NYC . A few years ago the NY Times did an article on the school and quoted an unnamed administrator . Turns out the guy was the senior janitor of one of the buildings .They do it all the time but no one calls them on their sh*t .

" Well, if you were paying attention you wouldn't have been appalled because Pres. Bush campaigned on the fact that he would sign the legislation if sent to his desk.

Same goes for his immigration policy. For all those "appalled" by that...if one voted for Pres. Bush, one should have taken into account his belief in amnesty which he campaigned on."

I'm glad someone said this. I always thought that we could change his mind on some of the things we disagreed with him on but that we couldn't because all I can remember doing the first 4 years is defending him against lies. Can't hold the feet to the fire if you can't stay on topic. Not one argument with a liberal did I have where we were talking about the real issues. He went AWOL, he's giving the rich tax cuts, not the poor, he lied about WMDs, he must be drinking again, he controls the oil prices, and the worst one...war for oil. This was actually said to me..."I knew when I saw those towers fall it was about the oil. It was an implosion". So, there ya have it. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this country who has experienced this. And I am 100% positive that all the lies were in place to keep us off the real isues because that's where conservatives win.

Every thing you say is true. I became desperate last summer when the media was winning the war against the war and our military. Then the President came out a bit and our spirits lifted a bit. Are we not up to fighting this constant media asault. I just don't know. It seems that our people don't get in the fight.

Has anyone demanded this reporter apologize on air for this bull? Has anyone hounded him to death about this , called him out on it , tourtured him about it untill EVERYONE hears about it ? Thats how we have to act from now on . Make scenes in public if necessary DEMAND explainations and public apologies. We play WAY to nice .

Our only concern with the media should be how to overcome them, just as we must overcome any other obstacle. They're biased. We know it. We've know it for years. Some people don't. Folks like Brent Bozell have spent lifetimes trying -- quite successfully in many cases -- to educate them, but as you've pointed out, there are still flocks of sheep blindly following the alphabet media to the wolf's den.

My point was not that the media are not a formidable opponent, but that they are just another enemy of liberty, one that must fall before Truth the way all others do. We can't afford the luxury of blaming them for all our ills and thinking we're done.

We need to put folks like Bozell, Don Irvine, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, David Horowitz, and some of the other conservative heayweights in a room and let them formulate an organized plan to combat the left-wing bias and get the Truth out to the consuming public.

Websites like Free Republic, Townhall, Newsmax, and FrontPage are priceless resources for accurate information, but their readership needs to be broadened.

And on and on and on ...

There are a hundred fronts in this war. The media are on one of them.
