If fat cat liberals bought millions of movie tickets but every theatre was empty, someone would notice... too bad for the chicks. Liberals with cash can usually make groups look popular -- even when they aren't...

Libs don't dig country music.
Unfortunately, for the Ditzy Chicks, they didn't think about that before alienating their base.

No amount of free plublicity will make Americans financially support Natalie Maines and the bird brain sisters.
They were pawns in a media war against conservatioves. Now that the election has passed, the are no longer useful idiots to the left (i.e. pawns). They are now just idiots who traded their popularity in for notoriety.

Nnot only are they box office poison, but they are also concert venue posion, radio poison, award show poison, etc etc. Its over for them. Its been over for them. The ONLY reason their album did as well as it did (a 60+% loss in revenue from pre-pandering to anti-american sentiment albums) is because Uunless the chicks continue to keep prostituing their art out to anti-american sentiment, there is no one left to buy that tripe.

They havnt sold out the venue here in Los Angeles either. One of the "soft rock" stations (Clear Channel owned 98.7 Star.....yes the same Clear Channel that they campaingn against) is giving thousands of tickets out and a chance to win Natalies Honda Prius. Natalie really drives a gas guzzling Range Rover...but the "prius" makes her look so much more "liberal" to the sheeple. I thought about trying to win it, just to set it on fire...mainly for the entertainment value of seeing her throw yet another angry tantrum. LOL~

Unfortunately, it's too early to call this a bomb. Here are some reasons:
* The "same day" box office is increasing from week to week. The movie actually seems to be gaining momentum;
* The marketing strategy seems to be the same as for "Bareback Mountain" -- a roll-out in a small number of theaters, while the "buzz" builds;
* As another poster mentioned -- it'll be popular at lefty film festivals. Awards mean more sales;
* The Mojo figures are for domestic sales only -- because of the anti-American (or at least anti-Bush) theme; this will be popular in foreign markets;
* Liberals will go to it because they're obligated -- or to "prove a point". Just like they went to BBM, the Gore fest on climate, and the stupid movie about electric cars;
* Limited theatrical release is a common strategy for developing a market for DVD sales (and Internet distribution);
* The Ditzy Chicks purport to be musicians -- they won't convert a bunch of urban liberals into C&W fans; but they can switch genres to pop. The movie will help them make that switch.
Too early for Schadenfreude.

I don't think liberals will feel obligated to go see it. They just won Congress, so their anger should subside and their attention be focused elsewhere. They don't need to support the Dixie Chicks anymore, and most of them hated the music anyway. I've said all along that their latest CD would debut at #1 with a quick falloff because it would be snapped up by fury-deluded liberals who thought that buying it would be a thumb-in-the-eye to President Bush, as if he pays the slightest attention to the CD sales charts. They would then use it as a drink coaster. But the next CD they release after that will tank badly because Bush will be gone or on the way out, the lib fury will have subsided, the free anti-Bush MSM publicity will be over, and their original audience will have told them to go to hell. (I've worked in radio, records and PR for 30 years, BTW).
A better way to look at the movie's success would be to check the daily per-screen averages. It peaked on the opening Saturday at $5,842 per screen. It fell during the following week to a low of $1,104, rose the next Saturday to $3,853, and during the following week fell to a low of $710. That is a quickly falling downward trend.
If it were building like "Brokeback Mountain," I'd expect the numbers to be going the other direction. For "Borat," they used the strategy of opening in 837 theaters then opening wider a week later. The first Saturday per-screen-average was $12,114, and the following Saturday, even after a week in theaters and expanding to over 2,500 screens, was still $4,482. That means it made over $10 million the first Saturday and over $11 million the second Saturday. Now, that's a hit.

Well. African-Americans (95% dem voters) don't like country music. Nor do urban Jews(87% dems). Nor do Dearborinstan Arabs or Minnesota Somali immigrant Muslims(100% dems.) Nor do the hard leftists at the university faculty clubs.(98% dems.)
Country music fans are traditionally white, Christian and patriotic. When the Chicks trashed an American president before a foreign audience of smelly Eurotrash, what did they expect? Dim bulbs, really. Probably put up to it by the phony Eurotrash green-card hustling husband.

The Dixie Chicks will be honored everywhere except at the box office. Countless leftist show biz groups will find ways to celebrate the "great talent" of the Dixie Chicks. But the rest of us, who know what they are, namely, traitors to the country and to the people who made them, will continue to turn away. It is as it should be.
