Typically Congress gives respect and lenience to the President when concerning appointments to the executive branch.
I doubt though; that these Dems would adhere to such traditions, especially not for VP. It jeapordizes pelosi's chances.
Well if he's gonna make a change I expect it will be soon, while he still has a majority.
Amendment XXV [1967 - Presidential Succession]
Section 1 [Vice President]
In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.
Section 2 [Vice President Replacement]
Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
Cheney stays Dammit!
Hey, I've got an idea--why don't you speak for yourself and not for the rest of us, OK?
YOU may see her as special only because of her skin color, but I'll decide for myself who *I* think is competent for the job, thanks.
Who says that always has to be the case? You can stick to old-fashioned thinking. I have my own reasons for wanting her for the VP job (I didn't say President), and considering some of the dopes we have in elective office, that's hardly a drawback.
Yup. The VP is an elected officer. He doesn't just hand in his resignation when he becomes too unpopular - like a cabinet officer would.
I don't need be be shown the 25th Amendment for the 5th time.
Ford was the Republican House Minority Leader at the time, and was popular with his colleagues - so the nomination had smooth sailing.
Or more likely, the Senate GOP would have rallied around Nixon and ensured there was not a 2/3rds vote available for his removal.
"... a bright shining star who would make the feminazis boil over and self-combust."
If you really want to see the demonrats explode, imagine the anguish and hysteria that would be unleashed if Ann Colter were to be nominated as the new VP. Now, that's something I would pay to see. It would be the best possible entertainment imaginable.
There were hearing for Ford, but there was no opposition. For one thing, he was a long term Congressman, part of the "club". For another, it was understood that confiming him was a pre-requisite to getting Republicans to go along with a Nixon impeachment. The Pubs were ready to dump Nixon, but not to turn the White House over to a Dem Speaker. So it was pretty much, "We all know Jerry, he's a great guy, confirmed."
OK, though I don't believe I posted that in reply to you.
..............I don't need be be shown the 25th Amendment for the 5th time...............
A bit testy there, after your blunder, heh??
More like some people don't check to see many responses to the same thing were already made.
It reminds me of the threads on a article that get posted over and over again at Free Republic because no one takes the time to use the search function.
Shoot, I can't get enough of the constitution myself. I carry a card in my pocket with the second amendment on it just in case I need to read a cop my rights.
Oh, brother. Apparently, back in the '80s, this Aussie dimbulb turned the dial of his radio when Aerosmith's "Janie's Got a Gun" came on. Click here for YouTube video w/Lesley Ann Warren as Janie's mother.
Whatta maroon. I don't even need to read the rest of this, I know it's nonsense.
That is correct, but that wasn't the *last* time a replacement VP was needed. After Nixon resigned, Ford moved up to be President & then Ford appointed Nelson Rockefeller to be his VP.
Hillary wouldn't want to run against an incumbent Pelosi in '08.
