"But, I have to tell you, "conservatism" is not the recipe for taking America back. It won't work. There are three fundamental problems with conservatism:
It is a defensive movement rather than offensive;
Its exclusive field of battle is electoral politics;
It lacks the vision of a better future"

I disagree. I have a different view of conservatism.

I see it as maintaining the treasure that George Washington gave us with God's help. I see it as not squandering the blood of the Minutemen of Lexington and Concord, of Beleau Wood, of Normandy, Iwo Jima and of today's troops.

We have inherited a sacred trust: the structure of a system that guarantees freedom to all men. It is our job to administer, defend and uphold it, and, in the course of doing that, to do whatever it takes.

If we don't, the lights will go out in all the world.

But being "conservative" is not a bold vision for the future.

Farah is an idiot! When Ronald Reagan gave the country a well articulated 'conservative vision' they went overwhelmingly for it. When Newt Gingrich gave the country a well articulated/defined 'conservative vision' in 1994, the country went overwhelmingly for it.

"Since its a movement devoted to restoring or preserving the status quo"

As a conservative, I don't want "to restore or preserve the status quo". I want to restore REAL CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT. Which is one reason I'll NEVER, EVER vote for that treasonous bastard, John McCain.

"I doubt that it is as dire as the article suggests. The Congressional losses were relatively normal historically and the dems to get to flex their immature mental powers for a few years and remind people a few things. A lot can happen between now and 2008."

Sure can. Bush and the Democrats can pass "open borders amnesty", which will be the death knoll for Conservatives for the foreseeable future. Once that happens, the socialists will have won, as a huge majority of the those new "voters" WILL vote for the socialist Democrats.

That is one possibility, but unlikely in my view.

Being a Christian, I tried to disagree with your concepts, but really thinking about it makes some sense. However, let me address this:

There is a common thread running thru conservatism and the RR. Atheist, are directly antithetical to those values and themes because those attributes are recongnized as being derived from "God,". I don't make this point to disagree with your thesis, just to make it known it was predominate in the foundation of the country. As a party, Republicans accredit this same foundation.

"That is one possibility, but unlikely in my view."

Are you REALLY that naive?? Passage of the "open borders amnesty" is a DONE DEAL. Bush wants it, and enough Republicans will back him and the Democrats that there is no chance whatsoever of stopping it. Even Tancredo said as much.

Or do you perhaps believe the BS about Hispanics having "conservative values"?? Maybe so, but so do blacks, and that hasn't stopped THEM from voting for the Dems in huge majorities.

Concerning media and presentation of ideas, one word can and is being used to fight the battle, Internet. More conservatives than libs use it.

That along with private schools and breeding, are ways to fight. Along with a leader who TRULY believes in conservative ideas, not someone saying what others want to hear. Think Ronald Reagan and at times Newt.

I don't think it will happen.:
Even Tancredo said as much.

I like the guy but I wasn't aware that he could predict the future.

I implied nothing about any race whatsoever.

I always thought of conservativism as conserving the Constitution and the ideals which the Founding Fathers held dear, including allowing religous freedom for government officials. State enforced atheism will always attract Communists, like moths to flame.

Let's say Democrats run wild and then get thrown out in two years. Of course we conservatives wouldn't be conserving every idiotic change they made. We would be for change, all right, but for the interests of returning to the principles this country started out with, so that we may conserve them, because they work.

I don't see what's so hard to figure out about that, or where people get what seems like (to me) strange ideas about what a conservative believes.

"I don't think it [illegal alien amnesty] will happen."

So, precisely what, in your opinion, will stop it?? It passed the Senate, even with a Republican majority. The only thing stopping it was the Republican/conservative majority in the House--and that's GONE. With a Democrat-controlled House, what's going to stop passage???

Bush certainly will NOT veto it.

America is sliding inevitably toward socialism and immorality.

Joseph Farah is correct. The foundation of our country, IMO, has been severely damaged like termites working on the foundation of a house. We have had no damage assessment. This has been going on for more than forty years, and most of America has not yet noticed. When we do notice it may be too late. It may already be too late for the American people to see and to recover. Our educational, judicial, economic, and even military institutions have been undermined by years and years of value erosion, lack of common sense (political correctness) seen as moral relativism, insane quotas, lack of profiling, and corruption. The enemy within is legion. We need a "Joan of Arc" or someone like that to lead us back to the country created by our fathers.

For a couple of generations now, our educational system already has so dumbed down morality, fundamental understandings of principles of democracy, American history, what our country and culture were, basic economics and free enterprise, and what true freedom was. What is our plan to educate our children, identify and purge the vermin in our systems, and correct the course of our country?

The problem is there no means left. In the olden days short lifespans, the threat of death and localization caused a critical mass of people to live Christian lives.

That was what created the cultural institutions which made the West great. Nowadays atheism is the norm, and the natural thing for cultural barbarians is to tear things down.

The "Good Ole USofA" is not Republican or Democrat. It is a spirit of optimism, capitalism, and Christianity. When the British colonial governments left and there was no American government, this spirit created the greatest culture that Earth has ever known. It is alive today. It is expanding around the globe. Join it or get out of the way!

One of the problems with conservatives; is that they always are rushing around picking up the mess that liberals make...something like Mr. Clean...which gives the elector, the impression, that conservatives, make good "nannies", but when they want some robust, quick buck society, they swoon to the siren call of liberalism, as long as there is a "can't wait society", there will be a liberal mess to clean up....
