Posted October 18, 2006 ...Barbra Streisand Simple Things We All Can Do To Help Stop Global Warming

Below is a link to a great article from The NY Times titled “Beyond Fossil Fuels” by Robert B. Semple Jr. The piece acknowledges that while stopping global warming is an overwhelming and daunting task, everyone has the power to make a difference by making simple, conscious decisions in their every day lives. The Streisand Foundation supports the non-profit group Earth Day Network, and they have compiled a list of a few easy ways you can conserve energy and help protect the environment from further deterioration:

1) Change old, incandescent lights to newer energy-saving models (compact fluorescent lights), turn off lights when not in use and dim lights when in use. 2) Update your heating/cooling system to a more efficient model 3) Tune up old heating/cooling systems, clean out the vents, buy a programmable thermostat 4) Make sure windows are sealed and doors are closed when running air conditioners and heaters 5) Turn on the energy saver switch near your refrigerator’s thermostat 6) Make sure that your refrigerator door seals properly 7) Clean out the condenser coil on your refrigerator (can improve the efficiency of your refrigerator by one third) 8) Wait until you have a full load before running your dishwasher 9) Invest in green stocks and renewable energy companies through socially responsible funds 10) Eat locally grown food and fruits and vegetables that are in season (if the food doesn't have to travel far, there's less carbon dioxide from the trucks that ship it) 11) Eat organic (the pesticides used on crops releases carbon contained in soil into the atmosphere) 12) Buy recycled

Poor Babs. She's so irrelevant that she's stooping to educating the unwashed masses in household chores in a futile bid for attention.

I think Babs originally wrote that suggestion as: "6) Make sure that all your refrigerator doors seal properly"

Ms. Streisand could move to smaller digs and the NYTimes could cease publishing. Paper manufacturing is one of the highest polluting industries.

The Slimes' reliance on paper causes pollution.

How about we confiscate Ms. Bab's excess worldly goods and distribute them to the needy along with her excess cash.

In that way, no further energy expenditure to produce the goods necessary for the poor's survival will be necessary. Bab's uses way too much energy in a living spaces that are too large and require too much precious energy. She needs at least four migrant families to fill up that space. Land isn't being made anymore, Babs, and you have more than you are entitled to inhabit.

Live green, Babs. I can show you how.

Most of us little people save energy to save money. It is only the super-rich class that has to pretend that by saving energy they are saving the World.

Oh, and BTW, they don't worry too much about saving energy, anyway.

Suggestions one through eight are good sense energy saving tips. I had not thought to clean the condenser on my fridge. I'll do that tonight. However, as a warning, we should remember not to dim the fluorescent bulbs.

The caustic soda used in the primary refining operation for Cocaine is an ecological disaster, not to mention the destruction of wild space for cultivation. If the Hollywood super-rich really wanted to save the rain forest, they would cut down on their Cocaine consumption.

Here are some more cool suggestions on ways you too can help our environment and fight global warming:
13. Park your private jet, leave the helicopter in the hangar, and fly on scheduled airlines!
14. Tell your entourage to ride in hybrids!
15. Sell your mansion and buy a house with only the square footage you actually need. Instead of air-conditioning, open the windows to the breezes in the summer and take lots of showers to stay fragrant!
16. Send your staff of gardeners back to Mexico, store that polluting mower, and buy some environmentally-friendly sheep to keep your acreage looking neat!

Dear Barbara,

I learned a few things in the military, and on the job: if you are going lead, then you have to stand in the front of the troops, and utter the words; follow me...hence I suggest, that you have an open house, and show the proletarian, how energy frugal you are, demonstrate, your new solar panels, your recently installed wind generator, how you have downsized your limos to a bicycle, how you turn off the electrical power at 7:30 pm....

Until you have demonstrated leadership, I will continue to view you, as one good looking women....

Yours truly

Fellow Citizen
