I am sure they will find a way to spin it.

'She is down in overall numbers, but the target age group is up' etc

Yeah, I don't understand... She's the most unbiased reporter that CBS has had in decades.

So let me get this straight, her ratings were down 4%. Down 4% during the election week. Down 4% during the most important week in this nation since the 2004 election. What does that translate into? Down 10% any other week?

It looks like Sky News is ditching the rebroadcast of CBS News (which occurs at 12:30 AM every weekday) as well.

Anyone have the numbers on what they were doing before cable news with Cronkite as the anchor?

Regardless of any political bias, I just don't see why the networks even bother with news anymore. It was never a big moneymaker, but in the past at least it held it's own. I would think the wisest thing to do would be just get a contract with CNN or Fox to "cut in" if their was actual breaking news.

I stopped watching that tramp during the Columbine shootings. I wish that student would have smacked the s**t out of her. If you don't remember, she interviewed one of the victims and asked "so how does this make you feel now?" questions.

They'd be better off with re-runs of "The Golden Girls". That's CBS audience anyway.

'NBC NIGHTLY NEWS WITH BRIAN WILLIAMS'-- NBC DOMINATES ABC BY NEARLY ONE MILLION VIEWERS AND TOPS CBS BY OVER TWO MILLION DURING THE WEEK OF THE MID-TERM ELECTIONS
Published: November 14, 2006

ON ELECTION DAY, NBC HAS ITS BIGGEST SINGLE DAY ADVANTAGE OVER ABC SINCE AUGUST 31, 2006 AND ITS BEST OVER CBS SINCE JANUARY 3, 2006

NEW YORK - November 14, 2006 -- According to Nielsen Media Research data, "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" was clearly the dominant network evening newscast, winning all five nights during the week of the 2006 Midterm Elections. For the week of November 6 – 10, 2006, "Nightly News" was the nation's largest single source of news and information, and the ratings demonstrate once again that when there is a busy news cycle, more Americans turn to "NBC Nightly News" to get the latest news and information than anywhere else.

For the week, the Williams-led newscast attracted an impressive 9.803 million total viewers, 11% more (+987,000) than second place ABC "World News Tonight with Charles Gibson's" 8.816 million, and a staggering 26% lead (+2,045,000) over third place CBS "Evening News with Katie Couric's" 7.758 million. This represents the NBC program's best total viewer delivery since the week of February 13, 2006 (Torino Olympics), its best advantage over ABC since the week of August 28, 2006, and its best advantage over CBS since the week of February 13, 2006 (also Torino Olympics). "Nightly News" has now placed first in total viewers for 119 of the last 123 weeks.

For the first time since Katie Couric became anchor, CBS is down compared to a year ago, falling 4% from 8.069 to 7.758 million last week among total viewers, and the program also declined 9% among adults 25-54 from last year's 2.2 to a 2.0 rating last week.

On Tuesday, November 7, Election Day, "Nightly News" updated six live feeds across the country with the latest election news, averaging a whopping 10.818 million total viewers, +1.583 million more viewers than ABC's 9.235 million, and a +2.796 million advantage over CBS' 8.022 million. This represents the NBC program's best single day delivery since Monday, February 13, 2006 (Torino Olympics) and excluding the Olympics, its best delivery since Tuesday, January 3, 2006. This also represents "Nightly News'" biggest single day advantage over ABC since August 31, 2006, and the program's best advantage over CBS since January 3, 2006.

In homes, there was also a clear No. 1 during the week of the Midterm Elections, with the NBC program posting a 6.7 rating and a 13 share. ABC was the clear No. 2 with a 6.1/12 and CBS was the clear No. 3 with a 5.5/10.

Among the demographics women, men and adults 25-54, "Nightly News' was top-rated in each category. Specifically among adults 25-54, the NBC program posted a 2.5 rating (3,101,000), 9% more than ABC's 2.3 rating (2,834,000), and a 25% lead over CBS' 2.0 rating (2,493,000).

This represents "Nightly News'" best delivery in the key demo since the week of March 20, 2006 and its best advantage over ABC since the week of January 9, 2006. "Nightly News" has now placed first in the key demographic adults 25-54 for 48 of the last 60 weeks (eight ties), for 121 of the last 154 weeks (28 ties) and for 228 of the last 267 weeks (34 ties).

John Reiss is the executive producer of "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams."
