The difference of course is that South Koreans are culturally capable of living in a free democratic society. Muslims are not. The Bush administration is apparently still incapable of understanding this basic fundamental fact.Thank you, Professor monday, for enlightening us in the boonies and hollows.
Professor, there seems oddly to be, say, the examples of Turkey, Lebanon, - and even the Muslim communities in our very state of Michigan (and indeed the Muslims throughout our nation who not only practice democracy but are model citizens and leaders.)
You might want to further broaden our vision by kindly elucidating the subtitles of nondemocratic tendencies in the totalitarian - and certainly non-Muslim - populations of Stalin's Soviet Union and Hitler's Third Reich.
Professor, there is an innate yearning for freedom. And it cost about 600,000 lives in World War II to achieve it.
You see, a lot of us are determined that this never again occur - and that enabling people to be free is the easiest and quickest and least-costly way to this end.

Islamic parties were prohibited in the few Muslim democracies that exist. Still that was not enough to keep a radical Islamic party from taking power in Turkey recently. Besides not allowing our troops to land in Turkey, they have passed sharia laws which in time will make democracy impossible. For instance adultery is now illegal in Turkey. Husbands can have their wives thrown in prison by simply accusing them of adultery.
If you think the Muslim communities in Michigan will continue to practice democracy once they out number non Muslims, you are mistaken.

Your sarcasm makes you appear foolish indeed. Intelligent people can see for themselves what is obvious. They don't need to be told that Islamic culture is incompatible with freedom, human rights, and democracy. Indeed the Koran forbids those practices.
What is surprising is that there are still naive people like you who believe the politically correct propaganda that all cultures are equal, and therefore, Muslims must yearn for the same freedoms and human rights as Americans.
It isn't true. Tribal societies are organized quite differently than civilized societies. They are based on cult of personality where there is one chief and everyone else follows orders. That is why Saddam could maintain order, while our attempts to maintain order and set up democracy have failed. Muslims need to understand, by sheer brute force, exactly who is in charge.
Our willingness to give them freedom is seen as weakness. Power is the only thing they respect.
I once thought only socialists and bleeding heart liberals believed in the multiculturalist nonsensical propaganda, but I can see I was wrong. Multicultural propaganda has infected the Republican party to such a degree, it can hardly be differentiated from the Democrats anymore, at least in that respect.
