When the tsunami occurred India refused assistance and in one of their announcements said that they would consider any foreign actions to land aid in India without government permission as a hostile act that would be met with "an appropriate" response. That's diplo-speak for uniforms with guns.
& that's what the government of any sovereign nation would have said.It is your (convenient) interpretation that any response would be military.Get real.It was primarily meant the usual crowd of UN affiliated agencies which crowd into such areas, doing precious nothing.
If anything like that would have happened, those erringagencies would have been denied infrastructural support & penalised. The only person that India was discomfortable with during the tsunami recovery operations was Kofi Annan for being too pushy. It is also a little known fact that numerous International charities & NGOs,including American ones were involved in the relief operations in India.
Any entry into India by any other country without government permission, IS a hostile act. I am sure its the same with US. You think US would take kindly on any country that tries to forcefully enter even if well intentioned? Did you allow foreign troops on your soil during Hurricane Katrina?
"India would use those aircraft against us in a heartbeat. I'm fond of individual Indians, but their governments aren't fond of anyone else."
Yeah thats why you sell aircrafts to Pakistan so that they could turn them over to China to have a look. Excellent foreign policy. /sarc
Yes, as a matter of fact the first responders in several areas were significant elements of the Canadian Navy. The Mexican Navy responded, as well, although they were not on the scene as fast as the Canadians were. Canadian Coast Guard helicopters flew in from Canada and operated freely in the affected areas. We not only had no problem with this, we were quite thankful for the help of our friends.

Yeah, but they all did so with your government's permission. I was wondering if you would have allowed the Cuban Navy had they also wanted to get into action........
After the Gujarat earthquake of 2001 in India,Israeli,American, British,Swiss,Belgian & even Pakistani airforce personnel arrived to deliver aid & help in relief of victims.Nobody had any problem with them & everyone in India, incl the Government was thankful of them!!
