Conservative Democrats seek larger role

By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer 24 minutes ago

For a dozen years, the Democratic conservatives known as Blue Dogs have been baying at the moon, ignored by Republicans and tolerated by their more liberal Democratic colleagues. Now, these House lawmakers say that is about to change.

Republicans "did not lose their seats to liberal Democrats" in last weeks elections, said Rep. Mike Ross (news, bio, voting record), D-Ark. "Republicans lost their seats to Blue Dog Democrats."

"We'll have a lot to say about what passes and what doesn't" when the 110th Congress convenes in January with Democrats in control for the first time in 12 years, said Ross, new communications director for the caucus.

With the addition of nine newly elected freshmen, the Blue Dogs claim 44 members, nearly 20 percent of the incoming Democratic majority. They will be led by Rep. Allen Boyd, D-Fla., and include Rep. Collin Peterson (news, bio, voting record), D-Minn., in line to become the next Agriculture Committee chairman.

The Blue Dogs were formed in 1994 after Republicans swept the long-entrenched Democrats from power. They tend to be social conservatives on such issues as abortion. But their big issue is fiscal discipline — balancing the budget and reducing the federal debt.

Many in the group are from the South, and the group took its name from the old adage that southerners would vote for yellow dog if he were on the Democratic ballot. A blue dog, they decided, was a moderate or conservative "choked blue" by the Democrats in the years leading up to 1994.

Watch out for an alliance between the Blue Dogs and the Rinos.

Kinda like the Gang of 14.

Oooooooo. If only they were serious! I'd love to watch this type of skirmish.
Soros would not be a happy puppy. He paid a lot of money for their "loyalty." LOL.

Maybe some will switch parties if Pelosi screws them over.
Republicans could make some very attractive offers.

I think Gingrich is right. The pubbies should form a coalition with the Blue Dogs before Pelosi has a chance to organize anything with them.

This should read: "While standing in line outside Pelosi's office awaiting their castration..."

"I think Gingrich is right. The pubbies should form a coalition with the Blue Dogs before Pelosi has a chance..."

We're talking Trent Lott here. Lott will probably not only send them back to Pelosi, but provide notes to her describing what bad little boys and girls they are for considering it.

Dear Blue Dog Democrats,

You don't exist and if you do exist, you are about to get trampled. We on the left control this party. You were just window dressing to get the voters to put us back in power. Too bad your districts haven't changed and will still be conservative. Have a happy two years, because come election time, you will have much to answer for but not to worry, by then, talk radio will be dead and we will control the media. Thus, there is a chance you will get all the cover you need from the wrath of those hicks that elected you in the first place.

In the meantime, we get to hold hearings, try to socialize healthcare, ignore terrorism, cut and run from Iraq, raise taxes and a whole host of far left socialist items.

Love and kisses,

John Conyers, Nancy Pelosi, John Dingle, Jane Harman, Alcee Hastings, and last but not least Henry Waxman.

I posted this on another thread but it seems perfect for this one, too:

Michael O'Hara: "Once, off the hump of Brazil I saw the ocean so darkened with blood it was black and the sun fainting away over the lip of the sky. We'd put in at Fortaleza, and a few of us had lines out for a bit of idle fishing. It was me had the first strike. A shark it was. Then there was another, and another shark again, 'till all about, the sea was made of sharks and more sharks still, and no water at all. My shark had torn himself from the hook, and the scent, or maybe the stain it was, and him bleeding his life away drove the rest of them mad. Then the beasts to to eating each other. In their frenzy, they ate at themselves. You could feel the lust of murder like a wind stinging your eyes, and you could smell the death, reeking up out of the sea. I never saw anything worse... until this little picnic tonight. And you know, there wasn't one of them sharks in the whole crazy pack that survived."

from the movie "Lady from Shanghai"

She'll allow him to make a little noise every once in a while but Mike's "hangy downs" will remain in a jar in Nancy's closet.

And everyone of their votes will be assiduously tracked so that in two years they will not be able to go back home and tell voters how "independent" they are. They will be exposed for who they are and will get the boot!
