Re your posts especially #27: "That is actually what I say in class, 'it's easy to be charitable with others money, how about using your own'.

The silence is deafening."

You do pack, don't you?

"I have no comfortable political home."

Boy, I hear you. This year the Dems' message was, "we are not the Republicans in power now," and the Reps' was, "we might be scoundrels but they are worse."

Since the election, both of them have been sinking deeper in the ethical morass.

I just added this book to my next shopping list for Powells.com, though. Prof Brooks seems to be an honest man... and his book reminds me of the many years when John Kerry and Teresa Heinz (since 2004, T. Kerry) gave bupkus to anybody.

My theory is that liberals don't believe in charity because they believe that it should be replaced by governmental largess. They are deeply uncomfortable with free choice, in giving as in everything else.

have you compared the time you have given to charity compared to your classmates.

This doesn't include time to political organizations.

No, because I am really selfish with time. I do sometype of stuff, some mentoring, small group type of stuff. But Mrs. Ez, the woman is never home because she always volunteering for something. I really do not bring my own situation into it, just my fellow conservatives.

I am absolutely NOT surprised by this......I know from my volunteer work that the real contributors are down to earth conservative people that believe in God and in practicing good values.....

Instead of boasting to the libs about how generous conservatives are, why not shut up and secretly donate some $$ to charity?

I am proud that I (we) are givers....both in time and money....

I know people that haven't a clue...not a single clue....what volunteer work is all about nor what giving to charity is about....

My educated guess is that freepers gave more money , faster, than the entire Moveon.org group.. to the Tsunami, the 9/11 tragedies and to Katrina......IMO anyway....

freepers are great supporters and great givers.....they're prayful.....

I AM NOT ONE BIT SORRY FOR SAYING THAT.

I do have to say that with my siblings, some of who are raging libs, we all have this giving and volunteering attitude....it comes from Catholic school where no matter how poor you were, you always gave a dime or so to the "missions" wherever they were......

As noted above, nobody is boasting; unless you consider pointing out a fact boasting.

Such a book might have the opportunity to enloighten a Liberal and perhaps rethink their worldview.

I'm sick of hearing how surprising this is. If this information is surprising, it is surpising only to liberals. I know very few churchgoing folk who don't make it a point to give at least 10 percent of their income to church/charity.

I'm going to take a wild guess on this one. People who drink moderately are probably more extroverted than people who don't drink at all.

Interesting. My own theory was that the drinkers were more likely to be Catholic, and we pretty much own the guilt department, which leads to giving a little more money.

Did they claim it as a tax deduction?

Yep. They deducted $2 per pair of Bill's used boxers.

Well, that's awfully modest of them. Given the celebrity value, they should have claimed at least $25.

Gee, I'm Jewish and I thought we owned at least half of it.

People who drink alcohol moderately are more charitable than those who don't drink.

Interesting, but this last one threw me. I wonder why moderate drinkers give more?

Conservatives need to fight back. Turning the other cheek doesn't always work. The liberals that I know don't give an inch.

Another liberal myth blown to pieces. Hipocrisy abounds on the left.
