I believed DeLay was innocent right up to the point he failed to jump back into the race after the court ruled against the party naming a replacement. I seem to remember he explaining on Edd Hendey's show how he was withdrawing to improve the odds of holding the seat. After he failed to junp back in the race I couldn't help but think someone (Ronnie Earle?) had made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

It's people like you who accuse people even though you have no idea what you are talking about. Tell me what you know about the work his family did for his campaign. Tell me why you can't pick your own manager.

I would never argue that there's a level playing field…quite the contrary…it is precisely because of the bias that places an unfair burden on Conservatives. The strategic imperative is to understand the rules of the game well enough to use it against THEM, not visa versa!

I'm quite sure all Congressional members that leave office ged rid of their files. Gee.....the information belongs to Delay and he or his staff have every right to do what they want with their own property. Who is this woman and what staff left her? Staff she hired or brought with her?

She has to ruin these people ala Hitlery and the travel office. After all, they didn't keep her screaming, kicking, toddler temper tantrum a secret.

DeLay's people were left in the office after DeLay vacated it. This woman was his temporary replacement. Since she only holds the seat until the new Congress takes office in the beginning of '07, guess she was going to use DeLay's staff. After she came in like a bull in a china shop, DeLay's old staff had no reason to hang around to help her. Since they probably had no reason to think they were going to be replaced by competent people, wiping all of the info seems appropriate, IMO.

Earle also goes after Democrats.

Earle goes after conservative Democrats.

Why would an honest person resign from office?

Because as mentioned above, they were going to hound him into bankruptcy and smear him beyond all hope (it was daily attacks in the Houston paper).

Tom's problems were a result of his arrogance and political effectiveness. The mere appearance of impropriety must always be factored into every step taken, or you leave too much to be politicized against you.

Yes. How dare he allow people to lie about him and a corrupt prosecutor to indict him on bogus charges. Clearly it's all his fault.

Well you are correct about not being convicted but then DeLay hasn't been tried on anything yet that I'm aware of. Wait till all the investigations are over and all indictiments are cleared then you maybe able to truthfully make your statement.

Ah, guilty until proven innocent. Nice, especially given Earle's record.

My guess is that most of the deleted files contain the phrase "that Gibbs b!tch".

That is one thing about Earle: it's not always about politics. Sometimes it's personal.

No, it wasn't all his fault. He knew the prosecutor, he knew Earl's M.O.
He knew how politics is played…he was a master player, and he knew he was a RICH TARGET, yet?

Yes. How dare he run for office and take a leadership position? How dare he attempt to win majorities for his party. He should know that Democrats don't have to adhere to the law.

I hear you…I didn't write the rules…but you know…rules is rules. Politics isn't beanbag. Tom gave as good as he got. Had he been a little more cautious…who knows…I didn't throw him out. Hell…I admired him and still do. You either play the rules or they play you.

" Sekula Gibbs said the staffers walked out of her office Tuesday, resigning en masse. A Capitol Hill newspaper, Roll Call, reported the staffers didn't like the way she was treating them.
Sekula-Gibbs said ... that seven employees in her (
actually, someone else's')... office ... "deleted records and files without my knowledge or permission" before quitting. "

Am I the only one here who reads this as the infantile chatter of someone who has absolutely no idea of her position in life - and who is just a tad miffed that seven staffers would want to depart rather than to work for her??

(Sorry lady, you don't need or warrant access to my address book)

You either play the rules or they play you.

The burden of proof is on Ronnie Earle and so far he hasn't proved a thing.

Tom DeLay has always played by the rules and the charges will be dropped but the damage has been done.

The only think he did wrong he was effective and the Dems were out to get rid of him, no matter what.

He resigned because his legal bills were eating him alive and he wasn't willing to put his family through anymore of the BS Earle was dishing out. The Democrats hated DeLay because he was effective.
