A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest! We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.
Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
received this in my email June 10th, the author is unknown. I am wearing red today and every Friday ~ Billie

Word Hunger
READ:
Psalm 119:97-104As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby. 1 Peter 2:2
I had just completed a night of Bible conference ministry in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was chatting with some of the people who had attended. At the end of the line was a young man in his twenties. He shared with me that he had been a Christ-follower for only about 4 months, and he was eager to learn more of the teachings of the Bible. I referred him to the RBC Web site with the Discovery Series topics as one possible resource for his personal study.
The next night the young man returned to the conference and shared that he had stayed up until 3:30 reading and processing the biblical truths he discovered in that online resource. With a big smile on his face, he declared that he just couldnt get enough of Gods Word (1 Peter 2:2).
What spiritual hunger! That excited young man is a reminder to us of the wonder of the Bible and its heart-enriching truths. Its all too easy for us to ignore Gods Book in a world filled with voices screaming for our attention. But only in the Bible can we find Gods wisdom for our struggles, Gods answers for our questions, and Gods truths for our understanding. These truths are worth hungering for. Bill Crowder
For Further Study
If youre interested in digging deeper into the Bible, review the Discovery Series at www.discoveryseries.org. Youll find more than 150 topics.
Study the Bible to be wise; believe it to be safe; practice it to be holy.

good morning you three!
I am just getting dressed. and will be wearing Red most of day . Need to work on how I will dress tonight.
It is Friday Night Lights - playoff time. One of the schools in teh final 8 is Nordonia. I did my student teaching there; my brother graduated from Nordonia & my son attended his last year of school
Their colors are Green/white. Tonight's opponent has colors of Red/white.
Lots of football here in Ohio this weekend. Ohio/Michign (ranked one & two in country) face off Saturaday & Cleveland Browns (not the hot bed of playoff contention) will play decades old rival Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
Will stop in on & off over the weekend

There is nothing like high school football!
I have tried to figure out if those leaves are variegated or if that is a camera lighting effect..The berries look like mine are beginning to turn..I have one red bunch, mostly orange to dark orange..(great for Thanksgiving decorating) and some still bronzy.
I have to make my "to do" list..I am having my children and grandchildren here..I don't have to cook the turkey..so I can concentrate on the important stuff.... like how to use the berries to decorate..LOL

Nice when you entertain for a big holiday & family/friends can help with the food.. takes some pressure off. But it also so nice to have folks come & just bring themselves & offer them great meal, beverage, company.
I love doing fall arrangements Meg.
We used to go "weeding" each time this year. Thistles, various berries (as you say), some of the ornamental trees, various grasses..fun to use.

I have to really get busy on planning my shopping..My car is coming with my daughter and SIL and I have to plan carefully timing and complete lists when I call a taxi. I have been here since June without a car..and have managed quite well. I buy big when I go shopping.

Yes, I will be posting music...mostly smooth jazz...on the Canteen. We just sort of jump in when we get the chance. I am sure that the ones taking requests want to let the others know when they'll be there.
You do need to be a DJ or have access to a music server. Some that post aren't "official" DJs but they want to post, so just jump in. Just need a warning if there are explicit lyrics, though, because families listen. I think the more the merrier as far as entertaining our troops is concerned.
I usually wait till about the 2nd page of the thread to start if I get there early, so I can visit for a while. It's very hard to keep up with pings once I start posting the music. It's very fast-paced. Then after I start really getting tired I just shut down for the evening and talk some more. It's lots of fun and very uplifting to know we are entertaining the troops and they really DO listen to the music!

My neighbor looked at me like I was nuts when she heard I did not have a car and had decided to stay here....Luckily I am content. I have had company come and take me out but I am really a homebody now. I will go back to my daughter's for Christmas and have a good long visit. I could not have stood doing without a car when I was younger.LOL I thank God I am so content with it..I was without cable TV until recently and still managed well!
I also thank God daily for the physical ability to do what I have done..the really bad backaches came after I had finished many major cleanup, organizing jobs. If my back hurts..I just stop and get on the heating pad for awhile and sometimes put off a project..I am more accepting.
I have a tremor that limits me in some things. I deal with it better now that I am thankful for what I can do instead of what I cannot do at all or easily.
The Lord has taught me a lesson in patience.

Group Hugs to All Finest FRiends, and Thank you for All the Pings you Send me; I Read and Enjoy them, but haven't had the Time to Freep as Much as I'd Like Lately. What a Pretty, Sunny Day this is Here at the King's Ranch as I Watch a Huge Flock of Crows Foraging in the Pasture and Nearby the House. The Air is Filled with their Silly Cries of "Caw, Caw, Caw," and One Especially Large Crow is Sitting Atop a Fence Post, Looking Like their Official Mascot. Butterflies Flutter by my Windows Frequently, and Several Squirrels are Chasing Each Other, and a Beautiful Red Cardinal just Landed in a Nearby Tree. What a Peaceful Day, Filled with Wonderful Things our Lord has Made! Thank You, O Lord, for these Blessings from Your Kind Hand!

Dear (((((Meg))))), that Titmouse and your Table are just Beautiful! My Eyes Delight in the Wonderful Flowers and Birds and Kitties you Bring to my Life. There is a Titmouse Here Frequently, but he is Very Shy, so he Stays Hidden Among the Branches of the Trees. But when I See him, he is a Very Lovely Bird.
A Few Minutes Ago, an Energetic Little House Wren was Flitting Around from Lawn to Tree, Searching for Seeds and/or Insects. He Jumped Up on the Top of the Greenhouse-Type Windows, and Looked to be Almost Dancing, So Great was his Energy and Joy of Life. A Wren and his Wife Tried Several Times to Build a Nest this Spring on the Open Rain Gutter that Runs Along the Side/Top of the House, but the Rain Kept Washing their Efforts Away. They were Very Persistant, and Only Gave Up After Several Tries!

I just Grabbed my Birding Binochulars and Looked Out at the Pond Behind the House, and 3 Turtles are Sunning themselves on the Log that Lies Across the Pond. I Wish the Beautiful Ducks that were Here Recently would Come Back, because they were a Special and Appreciated Treat to the Eyes.
A Squirrel just Ran Across the Lawn Carrying his Prize, Some Kind of Large, Green Leaf, which he is Savoring with Delight. I just Noticed that the Tree Leaves are Very Sparse Now, the Lovely Reds and Yellows having been Replaced by Many Bare Limbs. I'm Thankful for the Evergreen Fir-Type Trees that Dot the Landscape, because they Bring Color to the Drab Winters.

Oh, Kitty..I am combating the green monster LOL.
.What a wonderful day..and beautiful description you gave..I did go out and do some trimming a bit down the ravine to improve my view and get rid of some dead limbs..
I took my "staff" with me to steady me, put on sturdy shoes and accepted my limits..I had a great time because it's the first time I have even ventured a little way down the slope in so long..
I had no creatures to observe..but I found a limestone rock with the perfect small 3 toed imprint of some creature. There was once a sea here so finding shell imprints in the limestone is common.
I'm going to sign off again..Enjoy your weekend!

Makes me want to have more patience with the pain I deal with and really, like you said, I do thank God for what he lets me do each day, even though I hurt a lot. Yes, we do need to be more thankful. And especially with Thanksgiving on us. Many thanks to you.
